A new CD Review: Dog House - Ed DeGenaro
Although he's a great player on standard fretted guitars as well, DeGenaro seems more expressive on a fretless. And with or without frets, DeGenaro can flat-out shred. Using highly developed picking and legato techniques, his cascading runs of varied note-groupings are often reminiscent of the late Shawn Lane... The common denominator throughout this diverse recording is DeGenaro's great playing. He brings an obvious familiarity to whatever style he happens to be working in, and his great chops are always in tow. That's true whether there are frets present or not, but his fretless playing on Dog House really shines. By using the fretless so effectively in a such a wide variety of settings, DeGenaro really champions the instrument with this album. If you have any interest in fretless at all, or just want to hear a fine guitarist at work, pick up Dog House.

22-10-2005:
Ed DeGenaro began his assault on the forbidding "Must hear guitarist 2" poll in the late hours of an autumn friday evening. Through the foggy mist and swirling rain soaked haze, DeGenaro's troops, swiftly out flanked the sleeping Lorenzo Venza fans, who had sat comfortably on a poll lead for over two months.

Venza's men, sleepy with the excesses that come with holding the victors crown, had failed to read the tell tale signs of the bitter struggle ahead. The battle had been revealed to me by the less than stealthy refer trails left by DeGenaro's, hungry, vote whielding, foot soldiers.

The new king of the hill...Ed DeGenaro...Can the down trodden fans of Lorenzo Venza dig deep and summon up the force that could lead them to a final triumphant victory? ...watch this space....

Ed was kind enough to reveal his current situation once the battle was over.

He revealed that the Gods+Monsters CD had been put on the backburner:
"since he he didn't do any structured stuff anymore."
He is also working on acoustic and live CD's that should be out for Christmas....better put it on your list now.

Ed is also working with another killer Fusion guitarist, hopefully more on this later! ...and he is working with trumpeter with Sal marquez...so he's a busy guy.

Luckily, one track which was supposed to be on Gods+Monstas, Ed
"ripped away the guitars and replaced it with fretless stuff..."
You can hear this on the "unfretted" CD:

Which you can buy from: http://www.abstractlogix.com/

Check out unfretted web site to find out more about the disk.

PS he may change his mind on the Gods+Monsters CD and if he does. I'll let you know.
