Born in Germany, Schauss has been heavily influenced by artists such as as Yngwie Malmsteen and Racer X. He took private lessons in classical and electric guitar. After seeing a guitarist attempting to break the world speed record, he decided to practice eight or more hours daily in order to become the fastest player in the world.

He attended the Munich Guitar Institute ( MGI) where in 1996 and was voted the fastest guitar player! In 1998 he left Germany to go to Berklee College of Music. He studied with Jon Finn, Joe Stump, and Wayne Krantz.
