Ron Thal is interviewed by www.rock-is-life.com. When asked about getting the Guns and Roses gig, Ron Thal says:
It was actually Joe Satrani that shot me an e-mail and said that they were looking for somebody, and I recommended you to them. We eventually got in touch started talking and then we started touring and recording and here we are now.

The Bumblefoot express rumbles into town on the Guns n' Roses freight train... plus interview

Actually, I got an e-mail from Joe Satriani saying “Listen, I just recommended you to Guns. They’re looking for a guitar player – so if they get in touch, just so you know, it’s not somebody playing a joke on you or anything.” I was like, “alright, cool.” And Chris Pitman e-mailed me this funny e-mail, I gave him a call, we talked for a while, and he was a great guy. Started talking to management, and everything looked like it was on track. And then some Internet rumours came out that sort of delayed the process, haha.

A super interview with Ron Thal...talking about working alongside a Axle Rose, Ron says:
It's a fucking pleasure. He's a wonderful guy, we have a great time on and off stage. The only time anyone ever gave me shit for something I wore on stage was this one time, I was gonna wear this bright yellow shirt that said "Hi, my name is Ronald! And your name is DOUCHEBAG!" Frank (GnR drummer) talked me out of it.

Ron Thal's "Foot Guitar" has suffered some damage during the European GnR tour. Ron has got Vigier Guitars to create the "Foot Guitar version 2.0"...but he wants it designed by you. If you'd like to be the designer of the Foot Guitar v2, send your designs, drawings, photos, ideas to Footguitarv2@vigierguitars.com. Patrice Vigier and Ron Thal will choose the guitar's design from all submissions, and the guitar will be unveiled in 2007. Two of the guitars will be made - one for Ron and one for the designer!

GUNS N' ROSES: New Guitarist RON THAL Makes Live Debut With Band - May 12, 2006

Guitar shredder Ron Thal of the New York City-based alternative-rap-metal project BUMBLEFOOT has joined GUNS N' ROSES as the replacement for Buckethead. Thal is making his live debut with Axl Rose and company Friday night (May 12) at the opening night of a four-date stint at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

Ron Thal started as a solo artist on Shrapnel/Roadrunner Records with the instrumental guitar-oriented CD "The Adventures Of Bumblefoot" in May 1995 (voted one of the Best Newcomers in Young Guitar magazine's Readers' Poll in January 1996) and the vocal "Hermit" CD in January 1997. Through his own production company, Hermit Inc., Thal (a.k.a. Bumblefoot) has released his own music, and has worked as a producer, songwriter, and hired musician. Credits include CNN, MTV, Jessica Simpson, Cher, LeAnn Rimes, and many more.

Background:
Ron Thal, aka Bumblefoot needs no real introduction. His music and skills and sense of humour are legendary. Just one look at his now legendary Bumblefoot Vigier guitar and The nasty Ronald "Swiss Cheese Guitar" reveals all!

I particularly like the first line from his bio from his web site which begins "I hate writing these f**king things". He came to my attention in 1989 when I saw BfoOt highlighted in Mike Varneys Spotlight column in Guitar Player magazine. Mike released a Shrapnel Records' compilation CD "Ominous Guitarists From the Unknown" where BfoOt played a guitar version of Chopin's Fantasie Impromptu piano piece. He went on to release tracks on the Mark Varney "Guitar On the Edge" compilation CDs, volumes 2, 3 and 4 on the now defunct Legato label. He has since gone on to release a number of excellent CD's. He is also a big inspiration to other guitar players and has played guest solos on a number of other guitarist records including the recent release from Richard Daude. To find out more, check out his Discography and sound files.

To really see his brilliance you need to see him play. To that end he has been kind enough to provide some video samples of his amazing playing.
