Andy James: ikarus incinerated

News:
07-02-2008:
Andy is looking for a second guitar player:
I am on a nation wide hunt (uk that is) to find an ultra tight metal guitarist to be in my band Sacred Mother Tongue. If any of you guys reading this think you could do it or knows somebody that can, just pm me here or e-mail me at futureandyj@yahoo.co.uk. Youtube vids or myspace addresses are cool so we can check out your playing. I live in Norwich but the band are based in Northampton. Alot of prospects for this band, we have just been in the studio recording the single to be released soon and have also scheduled a video to shoot aswell. Metal Hammer are already behind this band and we have management and label backing also with some awesome gigs lined up including Download and The Golden Gods metal awards. Its a great oppurtunity for anybody who wants to be in with a chance of doing something great in a band. One last thing, dont worry if your not the worlds best lead player, its mainly tight rhythm we are after, along the lines of Killswitch engage, As I lay Dying, Bullet, that kind of thing. If you wanna check out material, the best idea would be to visit www.myspace.com/andyjamesf1 and listen to the first track "Two Thousand Eight Hundred". If you wanna hear more up to date stuff other than that track then just e-mail me and I can send you other new stuff we have done to get a better idea of what we are about. Hope you guys can help, Cheers Andy James.

I've never been to Australia before and I cant think of a better way than playing my guitar while I'm there."... then you read ... 28-10-2007:
Some news from Andy James camp:

Hi everyone, it has been a while since I last blogged. Things seem to be going ok, I have recently got the gig as Budgie's guitarist and am looking forward to their next tour in February 2008 in Australia. I've never been to Australia before and I cant think of a better way than playing my guitar while I'm there. Things are starting to roll on nicely with my own band Sacred Mother Tongue with having at last found somebody to play second guitar, we can now concentrate on getting some new material out there. There is even talk of us recording a single. The material we have been writing as a band is very exciting and I cant wait for you guys to hear it. If the stuff does well enough we might be coming to a town near you very soon!!!!. Also there are some new licklibrary DVD's on the horizon for the rest of 2007 with the release of Learn to play Pantera, Megadeth, Slayer and Motorhead just in time for Xmas, so get your stockings out people!!!!. Just one more thing, I have found out recently that In The Wake of Chaos is available on itunes, so i will be trying to set up a link from my myspace to itunes so any of you thinking about getting a copy and haven't or found it difficult, this should make it a lot easier for you guys. That's all the news I have at the moment, but if anything else crops up, ill be sure to blog again at some point. Id just like to say actually, thanks to all the people that swing by the page and check out my music, leave comments and messages, send friend requests e.t.c. Its great that people are showing an interest in what I am doing and being supportive with some great comments.

Cheers for now

Andy James

The instrumentalcase returns with a review of one of Andy's DVD lessons: MetalEdgeSoloing
Dave Says:
But one really nice thing about Lick Library instructionals is that the video and audio quality is superb. The menu design has a straightforward layout with performance footage playing in the background. You can jump straight into any of the track’s rhythm or solo breakdowns, just watch the performances, or there’s the usual “play all” button. And if you’re really bored there are text and picture previews of other Lick Library DVDs and a credits sub-menu! Overall, this is a great buy, especially if you’re a fan of Andy’s

...get your credit card ready if you have not got this already...

03-06-2007:
I suppose when your hot..your hot...the music news keeps flowing for Andy James following his incendiary CD release and DVD blow out! This time an interview with guitar9.
My main aim with this album was to write songs that had really strong melodies and structure and that would be appreciated by a wide range of listeners other than just guitar players. Having said that, I think there is a lot that will interest guitar players on this album from rhythm ideas to harmony, and of course, any guitar album wouldn't be the same without the fret burning element to it. All in all, this album has become quite personally fulfilling musically.

26-05-2007:
When asked what the difference between Metal Edge: Extreme Tapping Techniques and Essential Guitar Practice Routines: Tapping Technique... And is the "Essential Guitar Practice Routines: Sweep Picking DVD" different from all your Metal Edge ones, too?by the InstrumentalCase

Andy James replies:
"...metal edge tapping is just tapping licks and ideas really. The other tapping practice routines is 3 2minute songs from beginner to advanced looking at how to use tapping in a song context. Sweep picking practice routines is the same. The metal edge series is really just ideas i've taught using various techniques. The practice routine DVD's are more song based."

So of course now you'll be really clear which DVD's to get... from the one man video store!...I suppose you'll want to get them all...just to be sure...

It's nearly time...11-05-2007...or 05-11-2007 for American friends or 2007-05-11 for our Japaneses friends...the release date for "In The Wake Of Chaos"

This is the release info from www.grooveyardrecords.com:

ANDY JAMES: "in the wake of chaos" bio (GYR035)
(11 trax - 62 mins)
"In The Wake Of Chaos", the phenomenal new studio disc from British axemaster Andy James, features 11 tracks (62 minutes) of amazingly brilliant, powerful, mind-blowing, world-class instrumental heavy guitar "shred" madness. An impressive full-frontal, heavy-duty, aggressive, hi-tech instrumental guitar disc that will set the Guitar World on it’s ear. Make no mistake, Andy James is the REAL deal and "In The Wake Of Chaos" is a true virtuoso modern day metal shred guitar classic.

Hailing from Norfolk, England Andy James is the U.K.’s latest and best exponent for serious shred guitar music. James is without a doubt one of the most incredible instrumental guitarists we have heard in a long time and takes the throne as the number one British guitar god. With flawless, highly developed, speed-induced, muscular chops and super-human two-handed sweep picking madness his guitar playing is beyond brilliant and sets new standards. "In The Wake Of Chaos" is an explosive shred-filled, dazzling display of high-powered aggressive instrumental guitar riffage that will leave you speechless. Not since Satriani, Malmsteen or Shawn Lane have we heard such an amazing, gifted guitar master. Those are big words, however one listen to "In The Wake Of Chaos" and you’ll get the picture. Andy James is on the "same page" as those players and he is also the best Shrapnel guitarist you have never heard of...period. What sets Andy James apart from 99% of the other guitar shredders out there is his strong sense of melody along with an ability to write strong, dynamic, memorable songs that showcase his phenomenal guitar playing. On "In The Wake Of Chaos", Andy James has achieved true greatness on all levels and plays for the song opposed to a "shred for the sake of shred" guitar masturbation excercise which is so painfully obvious with most instrumental guitar discs. He has set a new standard for shred guitar music on "In The Wake Of Chaos". Andy James is a guitar giant and guitar fans worldwide will be awed by his six-string magic. Based on his vast musical accomplishments strongly evident on "In The Wake Of Chaos", if Satriani is looking for a legit, 3rd key player for his next G3 tour and if rock vocal gods aka Ozzy and Dio are looking for a new six string heavy metal guitar wizard, look no further than Andy James.

"In The Wake Of Chaos" is an amazing instrumental heavy guitar shred-fest that is HIGHLY recommended to fans of killer axemasters like JOE SATRIANI, STEVE VAI, EDDIE VAN HALEN, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, SHAWN LANE, GREG HOWE, JASON BECKER, PAUL GILBERT, ZAKK WYLDE, MICHAEL SCHENKER, VINNIE MOORE, DOUG ALDRICH, GEORGE LYNCH, JOHN PETRUCCI, MICHAEL ANGELO, DIMEBAG DARRELL, MATTIAS EKLUNDH, BUCKETHEAD, AKIRA TAKASAKI, CHRIS POLAND, AL ESTRADA, RANDY McSTINE, JEFF KOLLMAN, JOE STUMP & GUS G. and other incredible guitarists who have taken the guitar to new levels. As an added bonus, "In The Wake Of Chaos" features an incredible 8 minute epic track called "Against The Gods" which is dedicated to brother Dimebag Darrell (RIP). An amazing, jaw-dropping, deep heavy guitar statement and "musical tribute" that is worth the price of admission alone. This is the stuff heavy guitar dreams are made of.

When was the last time you heard a guitarist who really had something to say on the guitar? Andy James takes the guitar to new levels of insanity and has raised the "guitar game" on "In The Wake Of Chaos", recorded exclusively for Grooveyard Records, a label dedicated to outstanding TOTAL GUITAR music. "In The Wake Of Chaos" is a highly-impressive, well-educated (smart), interesting heavy guitar disc from an important guitarist; a balance between composition, virtuoso sophistication and tone mastery that together achieve perfection. An absolute must-have for any fan of top-shelf guitar-driven shred and quality guitar music. Even non-guitar playing music heads will heavily dig this mind-blowing, awesome heavy guitar monster. Trust us, shred ain’t dead...Andy James is here to save the day.

Get ready to unleash the heavy guitar beast. Andy James has arrived.

Awesome player. Alessandro is a great player that I’ve met previously through his forum on his website www.alessandrobenvenuti.com. He is a more fusion based player and has had the pleasure of sharing a stage with Greg Howe. In the audience of his performance later that day was Prashant Aswani, former student of Greg Howe and fusion artist in his own right.

Crazy Tapping

24-01-2007:
Fresh from the NAMM 2007, Andy James takes some time out to talk with Key man at InstrumentalCase, Dave B in this new interview.

I was at GIT in London at the time, and Vinnie Moore was there to do a clinic. Upon entering the clinic everyone had to write their name on a piece of paper and put it into a box. At the end on Vinnie's clinic they announced that they would pull 5 names out of the box, and those people would get to jam with Vinnie. The first ticket pulled out had my name on it! I couldn’t believe it (although I suspect Shaun Baxter had rigged it so that I got picked for whatever reason).

16-01-2007:
Andy James broke the news in his MySpace blog, the band Fallen Ikarus is sadly no more after amicable disscussions the split was due split to differences in musical direction. Andy is focusing on his instrumental side of things in 2007. This means after a successful NAMM show, and upcoming interviews, he will form a new "awsome line up" to start rehearsing "In the Wake of Chaos" material with a view to touring from the middle /late part of 2007.

One last thing. Andy James has uploaded a 37 second video intro from licklibrary.com. Stay tuned for more news on the DVD and album.

Andy James gave a brief update of progress on the new CD in petrucci forum:
It's goin well, i've finished most of the recording. [the CD i used] Pod for the rhythm through a hughes and kettner red box to get speaker simulation. Works pretty well i think. As for scales its pretty bog standard three note per string Ionian between B and D I think with some other old fashioned techniques thrown in. Im not clear on the settings on the pod coz all the knobs have moved outta place and they are preset, sorry. The red box helps though.

After hearing the sizzling snippet posted...all I can say is get your money together..and...look forward to the CD!!!
