Background:
José Carlos Matos was born on the 29th of June 1973, Johannesburg, South Africa. His initial influence was from his father who introduced him to Santana, George Benson, Queen and Earth Wind and Fire. José Carlos Matos studied piano lessons at the age of 8. However, he moved to Portugal in the mid 1980's. He continued to play keyboards until he heard the band Europe. At that point he took up guitar and started listening to Bon Jovi, Whitesnake and Van Halen.

Later he discoverd players like Joe Satriani, Nuno Bettencourt and Steve Vai gradually learning phrasing, improvisation, dynamics and music theory.

As well as playing in bands Jose wanted to work on a solo project called "The Nomad Experience" with a "World Music" flavour. After he got the job of guitarist for a musical show "Kiss Kiss". During this period he did some workshops with Luís Moreno, teaching some of the basics of guitar techniques to younger pupils.
