SLASH's 'Ultimate Guitar Showdown' Head-To-Head Widget Available - Nov. 28, 2007
A "head-to-head" widget for Slash's Ultimate Guitar Showdown, an online competition in search of the ultimate guitar solo. In Music Nation's Slash's Ultimate Guitar Showdown, guitarists will be judged by Slash... the prize a Gibson Les Paul guitar and Marshall stack.

Slash's Ultimate Guitar Showdown will empower bedroom guitar heroes and bands with killer guitarists to go head-to-head for bragging rights. Entrants can upload their videos and/or mp3s at showdown.musicnation.com to create an artist profile. Slash will not only be the sole judge of guitar craft, but guitarists can also browse the web site for hidden interview footage of the iconic axeman himself.

Musicians can enter through December 4. They can also gain valuable feedback from the public, who can rank competition entries via head-to-head voting before the best ten are judged by Slash beginning on December 5. The winner will be announced on the web site December 10 with four honourable mentions.

How it works

STEP 1 - ENTERING
If you've just come through sign-up, you're already entered... otherwise click ENTER NOW in the control bar. So far, so good, but there's much more to do.

STEP 2 - SHOWING OFF YOUR SOLO
You’re going to need a video or mp3 that shows off your best guitar solo. If you’ve already got something that fits the bill, great, otherwise you’re going to have to record something special. It can be as simple as you, sitting in your room, wailing on your ax… or on stage with a band. You can play a whole, original song, or just the solo, whatever you think is best, so long as it shows off your best guitarmen-ship for Slash to see. Remember, it’s just the solo he’s looking for.

STEP 3 - UPLOADING YOUR WORK
It’s pretty easy actually, just click UPLOAD MEDIA in the control panel on your right. It'll walk you through the process from there.

STEP 4 - GETTING IT INTO THE HEAD-TO-HEAD PLAYER
Pay attention, we just changed the system. Now that you've uploaded your solo, click SELECT MEDIA in the Ultimate Guitar Showdown control bar at the top, to let the system know that's the clip you want in the competition and you're good to go!

STEP 5 - CHECKING THE MAIN COMPETITION PAGE
The direct address is showdown.musicnation.com, or you could click the SLASH'S ULTIMATE GUITAR SHOWDOWN logo at the very top left of your screen, but we'll also link to it from the musicnation.com homepage. From there we'll have links to the new Slash interviews uploaded weekly. More importantly though, you can also go to the Head-to-Head player to check out and rate your competition, as well as checking out the standings.
Don't forget, Slash has hidden 30 exclusive tips in the player, secret tidbits that could help you win.
If after seeing them all, as well as your competition, you’d like to change your entry, feel free. Simply upload a new submission, move it into the number one spot on your playlist, and see how your fellow competitors rate it.

FINALLY: SLASH HIMSELF STARTS WATCHING IN DECEMBER
Slash can’t look at everything, but your ratings decide what's worth his time, so keep at it in the Head-to-Head.
Remember though, there’s actually two winners:
One hand-picked by Slash as the best Solo, wins a Gibson Les Paul Studio, a Marshall Half-Stack,
and Slash's own, personal seal of approval.
The second, picked by Music Nation and Ultimate Guitar as the most unique or creative, gets a copy of Guitar Hero III featuring Slash and a Nintendo Wii.
