Dave Martone: dvd and cd in the can

News:
31-05-2008:
Dave Martone has posted a Zone recording update on guitar9. Dave has a new concert DVD coming out shortly. It was shot at the Montreal Drum Festival at the end of 2007. It will be an official bootleg DVD, since it is a 2 track board mix with 3 camera shoot that Dave had no control over.

The new Martone record has been done since Christmas. Dave has been looking at finding the correct label to put it out.

Dave has also recently completed doing guitars for Universal Records Island Defjam artists Jet Black Stare. I was hired to do melodies, leads and doorbell lines (melodic hook sections) and some rhythm work. Read the full information

Mike Campese: synthetic scales

News:
31-05-2008:
Mike Campese has another lesson on guitar9.

Mike says:
In this lesson I want to show you how to make up synthetic scales. A synthetic scale is a scale that is not diatonic to the major or minor scale, rather, a scale a composer constructs. There are several ways to construct a synthetic scale, there are 12 possible tones and you can select any combination. One really great way to construct scales is to use triads; take any two triads and put them together and you will get a six tone scale.

German Schauss: picking sequences II

News:
31-05-2008:
German Schauss has added a new column to guitar9. German says:
This lesson will deal with more picking with a sixteenth note feel but it will cover much more of the fretboard this time. Let's take a look at the ascending lick. It is based on an eight note repetitive idea that will be moved up by step. When ascending, start off with your pinky on the 8th fret on the low E string and play two notes descending before playing the usual three note per string pattern up to the adjacent string, ending on the A string 10th fret. This is the basic pattern. From there on, you just have to "copy and paste" Move your pinky up to the next note in the scale (12th fret or A) and continue with the same motion. Of course you need to adjust the notes to the scale. I wrote this example in F Major. In the videos I will sound a whole step lower, as my guitar is tuned down by a whole step. Try practicing the ascending lick starting from different positions on the fretboard in key and of course in all 12 keys.

Joe Stump: new cd and dvd planned

News:
31-05-2008:
According to Blabbermouth, Joe Stump is set to release a DVD from recent live shows and is working on a new CD

Joe Stump says:
"The European tour back in February/March went extremely well. I played 15 dates in 20 days combining shows and clinics. A sincere thanks goes out to all that attended. A bunch of the footage was recorded in both audio and video format, so I'm sure that a bunch of that will surface in the form of bonus tracks and quite possibly a new bootleg concert DVD with concert and clinic footage combined. I played a nice combination of solo stuff, REIGN OF TERROR material, and quite a bit of RAINBOW and DEEP PURPLE so the bootleg DVD will be completely filled with tons of guitar.

"I'm currently recording my new solo record, the long awaited follow-up to 'Speed Metal Messiah', and it should be released later on this year (late fall). I've got a bunch of the guitar tracks completed and I'm very pleased thus far. It's a very diverse collection of tunes with a bunch of blazing neo-classical tracks, of course, a nice Gary Moore-style ballad, an evil speed metal/thrash metal bit, and some retro Hendrix/Blackmore-induced tunes. While all the tracks are titled, I have several working titles for the record that I'm still tossing around. While there's, of course, a ton of over-the-top guitar stuff going on as usual, this one will be my best record song/composition-wise. I feel really good about the selection of tracks.

"For all you European fans, I'm featured in the new shred issue of Gitarist magazine (www.gitarist.nl). There's an interview with me, plus I'm mentioned as one of the top 20 shredders of all time.

"I'll be going to Europe next month for some festival dates with HOLYHELL, and as usual, I'm really looking forward to getting out and doing more damage. After returning from Europe, I'll get back to work on the new record, which should be completed by late July/early August."

News: guitar idol finalists are on their way update XII

News:
31-05-2008:
Three more for the final!
Peter Petchalov: http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/peter-petchalov

Judges:
Peter’s larger than life character translates into a highly individualistic and unorthodox approach to full on rock/metal guitar. We are all looking forward to seeing how this translates to the main stage! Peter – You Rock!

Gustavo-Di-Padua: http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/gustavo-di-padua
Judges:
Gustavo possesses fantastic touch and phrasing, great technique – and all with a real rock attitude! He impressed with his real ‘rockstar’ approach and great natural flair, conjuring up memories of Jake E. Lee in his prime. Gustavo possibly has all the attributes to become a true guitar idol.

Marc Playle: http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/marc-playle
Marc displays a great combination of Eric Johnson/Vinnie Moore type opening lines, building into a great classic rock type track with some choice Slash/Schenker style licks: epic ‘traditional’ rock soloing with class. Rest assured, Marc has made the final on merit!
