This is an awesome composition! Your playing is amazing, I'm buying your CD as soon as it becomes available. I was at Guitar Idol last year and I thought that you were good enough to win then, so best of luck this year!

I don't get tired of hearing this masterpiece. Release that album already!

02-03-2009:
In some ways this blog could be seen as a Paul Gilbert web site as there are now 250 posts referencing Paul Gilbert... when you consider it's out of over 5000 guitar related posts it doesn't seem too "fan boy"... this post contains video from the House of Blues show Hollywood, Saturday, February 28, 2009.

Alex Lifeson: interview overload

News:
02-03-2009:
Interviews and clips of Alex Lifeson through the ages... not suprisingly there is a lot of video footage of Alex Lifeson... here's some interviews and interesting curios...this one's for my mate Brad.

CHARTattack's Kate Harper sat down with Rush's Alex Lifeson last December at the annual Andy Kim Christmas Show in Toronto to talk about his favourite Rush song and the band's future.

The Naples incident

On New Year's Eve 2003, Lifeson, his son, and his daughter-in-law were arrested at the Ritz Carlton hotel in Naples, Florida. Lifeson, after intervening in an altercation between his son and police, was accused of assaulting a sheriff's deputy in what was described as a drunken brawl. In addition to suffering a broken nose at the hands of the officers, Lifeson was tasered six times. His son Justin was also tasered repeatedly.

According to Justin's file in the Felony section of the Public Records database of Collier County, Florida,[9] the judge determined that, based on the testimony of the prosecution's witnesses, including one of the police officers involved in the incident, that while the potential for violence existed, none was offered by Justin. As part of the plea agreement Lifeson and his son were each sentenced to 12 months of probation with the adjudication of that probation suspended. Upon successful completion of the probation, the matter is to be expunged from their records. In addition, they had to pay all court costs. In the fall of 2005, the court granted early dismissal from probation to both Lifeson and his son.

In his journal-based book Roadshow, Peart relates the band's perspective on the events of that New Years Eve. He also says the incident was and still is a traumatic event for Lifeson and his family.

Pat Martino: unstrung hero

News:
02-03-2009:
Kudos to all about jazz, read their full post... first New York public screening at the Rubin Museum of Art, 150 West 17th Street in the Chelsea section of Manhattan on Sunday, March 15, 4-6 pm. Tickets cost $20

90 min. Documentary Feature Film

The human brain; three pounds of jellified fats, proteins, sugars and salts - a matrix of robotic cells housing a myriad of intricate machines. Stare hard at that machinery and you see... well that's all you see. Machinery. That's all there is. But look at the spirits bubbling up from the sludge. Look at the carnival of consciousness flowing from the void. How is this possible?

Neuropsychologist and author Paul Broks travels America in search of the soul of legendary jazz guitarist Pat Martino who was brutally silenced by memory stripping brain surgery. Through this remarkable story of his ascent from the depths of amnesia to the peak of artistry once more, Broks explores the nature of memory, self, creativity and the brain systems underlying personal identity making some ground-breaking discoveries on the way. Filmed in the US through 2006 & 2007, the film features Les Paul, Carlos Santana, Pete Townshend, Joe Pesci, John Pattitucci, Delmar Brown, Red Holloway...

"Perhaps the finest documentary about a jazz musician ever made." Vic Schermer 'All about Jazz' 2008
