Steve Stevens: new fuzz pedal

News:
18-03-2009:

Steve Stevens says:
Hey Guys, As some of you might know i have a huge love for early Brit Prog Rock. Being a giant Robert Fripp fan, his early fuzz tone always had that something special that i found really hard to capture with all of the existing fuzz pedals i have owned. Well, a fair amount of google hours and i learned that he used a Burn Buzzaround. As the only clone i knew of was by DAM (for goddam expensive, lol) i found the original schematic and fired off an e-mail to Kevin Randall, the one guy i know that obsesses over these vintage pedals like i do. I asked if he'd be up for building a clone, a truly exact one with NOS transistors. Well 6 weeks later he sent me off 2 actually. Within 5 minutes of playing through it, the true Fripp tone was in there in a way no Big Muff, Tonebender, or Rat could come close to.

I was inspired enough to put together a very King Crimson inspired audio demo that you can download here.

Kevin has told me he will make this pedal available to the public although not in the red enclosure. Hope you guys dig this wierd and historic experiment. The photo shows the original Burns pedal and the Kevin version.

sounds pretty cool to me check out the post

Alex Lifeson: premier guitar interview

News:
18-03-2009:
Premier guitar with a cool interview of one of my favourite players, Alex Lifeson.

Are you the kind of player that has an emotional attachment to a particular instrument?

Well, my 335, my 355 and that Tele, and the first CE bolt-on that I got from Paul Reed Smith, as well the one I used for most of the 1990s and early 2000s, which again was a CE bolt-on—which is not their fanciest model. Those guitars right there are probably my most important kids, and I wouldn’t want to get ridof any of them. I’d be heartbroken losing the others, but…

oh, and a couple of these other Les Pauls that I have currently, because they’ve been set up exactly the way I want them. So I guess they could all go except for those.

Paul Gilbert: billy sheehan double bill

News:
18-03-2009:
Mega kudos to Jenn over at http://metalichicka.wordpress.com/ for digging out this info:
JEnn says:
It is true: the April 8 clinic is 2 events in one day. First there is a bass clinic with Billy Sheehan, and then dinner, and then a guitar clinic with Paul Gilbert. Then, there's a concert. The only way to see ALL of that is to spend 70 Euros. If you just want to see the Billy Sheehan part, that is 30 Euros... the concert/Paul clinic part is 40 Euros.

Guthrie Govan: mattias ia eklundh usa clinc tour?

News:
18-03-2009:
Spotted on the Guthrie Govan forum
Here's the tentative schedule of the clinics.

Jul 18 Sat - Raleigh, NY - Indoor Storm/RMA
Jul 20 Mon - Virginia Beach - Alpha Music
Jul 22 Wed - Washington DC - Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center
Jul 24 Fri - New York - TBA
Jul 25 Sat - Weymouth, MA - Matt's Music
Jul 27 Mon - Montreal, Canada - Diffusion Audio/Moog Music
Jul 29 Wed - Toronto, Canada - Cosmo Music
Jul 31 Fri - Chicago, IL - Make'n Music

There's a good chance that our visit to the Boston area will include the involvement of the Berklee College of Music and a possibility that the clinic will be held there with Suhr and Matt's Music sponsoring the event.

I'm working on securing a venue in Manhattan with the help of our dealer Guitar Man there. I hope to have that finalized soon. We may also have one more day in Chicago.

I'll keep you guys posted as these details get finalized. The dates for each city are pretty much set. Just a few little things to work out...

"rejoice"... new addition to the playlist.
a piece included in the shawn lane tribute album. I recorded this back in 2003. i have hours of unreleased music recorded with rahat fateh ali khan...one of the last times that i spoke with shawn lane i mentioned the fact that i had all this material and he expressed interest in recording some guitar...i sent him a DAT for him to start putting ideas down for an album that i would have produced for him...fate had different plans though... after shawn passed away i felt the best tribute i could offer was to record something he might have enjoyed...that's the little story of "rejoice".
