Dan Arcamone: swinging jazz fusion

News:
06-04-2009:
Dan Arcamone is on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/danarcamone

Background:
Dan Arcamone’s unique approach to the guitar is rooted in jazz while exploring and incorporating other forms of music. Dan leads his own trio, which performs his original, modern jazz compositions. While his playing is often aggressive, a strong melodic concept is always present. Just Jazz Guitar called the trio “swinging, soulful and full of energy” while calling Arcamone both a “gifted composer" and "gifted guitarist” with a “relaxed yet flawless style.” In addition to fronting his own group, Dan is also commonly seen as a sideman with various groups, most notably The Damon Grant Project. Dan has performed at the Berkshire Jazz Festival, the Norwalk Jazz Festival, the Norwalk Oyster Festival, and the New Haven Arts and Ideas Festival. Dan’s guitar playing and writing can be heard extensively on his 2008 release, “Trioisms” and The Damon Grant Project's “Sonidos Nuevos”. The Dan Arcamone Trio was awarded “Best Jazz Band” by the Fairfield County Weekly’s Grand Band Slam Reader’s Poll in 2005 and 2007. MyGenProfile Generator

Nigel Tufnel: spinal tap world tour announced

News:
06-04-2009:

Spinal Tap have announced a "world tour" consisting of a single June date at London's Wembley Arena. The tour marks the 25th anniversary of mockumentary film, This is Spinal Tap, which launched the band's career. The band will be backed by 1960s folk trio The Folksmen, the focus of another spoof film, 2003's A Mighty Wind.

Spinal Tap's lead guitarist Nigel Tufnel commented: "If we're going to do a World tour on only one night, at least it's this world."

Bassist Derek Smalls added: "one night is not enough, and it's way too much".
Spinal Tap have used a variety of drummers over the years due several untimely deaths, including a spontaneous combustion on stage. The rest of the line-up for the world tour has not been announced but the group paid tribute to former members. Singer and rhythm guitarist David St Hubbins said: "This show will be dedicated to all of our drummers who have passed on, either to their reward or to middle management at Sainsbury's."

The band also announced that they had tried in vain to produce some new material and will instead be releasing a new lost album this summer.

Scott Henderson: nick andrew review for all out guitar

News:
06-04-2009:

He also performed an exercise in which you harmonize one note using chords built from all 12 tones, which was a real eye opener.

Another piece of good information is that Scott figures out his tunes theoretically after they are written. That way he is not influenced by conventional harmony or technique, which enables him to write what sounds good to his own ears without being swayed as to whether it is theoretically correct or not. Once the tune is written then he will go back and work out what he has just done.

He also mentioned that writing is like a job and you need to work at it constantly. You can't sit around waiting for inspiration all the time you have sit down and write every day whether you want to or not. Indeed more often than not Scott explained that when he is not in the mood for writing he is more likely to come up with a Henderson gem. Which prompted another fantastic quote "If you're happy when you're writing, you're probably writing a piece of shit!"

News: guitar idol a tip for the finalists

News:
06-04-2009:
Looks like it's going to be a tight final this year... so James has clarified the options for the final push. The tracks for the final need to be originals. They can still be a jam or improvisation over one of guitar idols backing tracks or standard backing tracks. I think all the fans are saying if you want to make it to the final, give it your best shot! To one and all good luck!
