Charly Sahona: naked thoughts from a silent chaos cd in production

Venturia guitarist Charly Sahona has began writing for a solo album tentatively entitled "Naked Thoughts From A Silent Chaos". The album will consist of 8 or 9 tracks with vocals with the direction being a more straightforward brand of metal than that heard on the last Venturia album "Hybrid".

The new solo album will be tracks built around heavy riffs, catchy vocal lines and crazy solos with all guitar work and vocals handled by Charly himself. Fellow Venturia musicians Diego Rapacchietti (drums) and Thomas James (bass) will provide the rhythm section.

Charly is keen to stress that this doesn't mean the end for Venturia - far from it - as writing for the third Venturia album will commence in May and Charly has hinted the sound will also be heavier and more direct than that heard on last years "Hybrid".

A release for "Naked Thoughts From A Silent Chaos" is anticipated in the 3rd quarter of 2009 on Lion Music.

Palace Terrace is a progressive and neoclassical rock band with a theatrical and modern edge. Their music combines superb musicianship, beautifully crafted melodies, unique harmonic progressions, compelling stories, counterpoint, large orchestrations, wide dynamics, odd meters, stunning vocal arrangements and elaborate forms.

Palace Terrace was formed when composer and world renowned guitarist virtuoso George Bellas [ex Ring Of Fire, ex Mogg/Way] contacted Tenor Vocalist Jonathan R Marshall and invited him to fill the main vocalist spot in the band. The two discussed how they would like to see the band debut as well as evolve into the future. Sharing very similar visions the two began writing their first album "Flying Through Infinity". The search for an extraordinary percussionist was much of a concern for George and was a long but fruitful ambition when he finally discovered the prolific talents of Percussionist Sasha Horn.

"Flying Through Infinity" is a combination of progressive and neoclassical styles. The music contains extensive odd meters (with one section in 99/32 time), melodic vocal lines sung by John Marshall and rich vocal harmonies sung by George Bellas, along with big orchestrations and guitar solos that are drenched in feeling. The album is filled with a very wide dynamic range. Some of the vocal arrangements were written in strict 4 part counterpoint and others using imitative counterpoint. The album is very diverse in different types of songs, it contains progressive songs, neoclassical and even simple commercial structures.

On the album’s concept George Bellas states, “The essence of the album is about the journey of a soul travelling through the infinite universe and other dimensions within it. The story is really about all of us here on Earth and the wonder of what happens after we're gone. The spirit in the story is just a character that represents any one of us... wondering who we are, will we find loved ones on "the other side", feeling the need to complete unfinished business after we pass away... The soul's journey includes visiting loved ones on earth and reflecting on cherished memories all the while searching for its way to eternal peace and trying to find its ultimate purpose. At the end of the story the spirit finally finds inner peace, its ultimate purpose and a place to call home”.

This album is characterized by George's strong penchant for his unique and well defined composing style, as showcased in his previous releases, but differs from previous releases in that this is not an instrumental album, but rather a vocal based album. George debuts his vocal composing and arranging abilities as being strong and unique, evident with his inclusion of not just single melodic lines or stacked harmonies, but with his well versed ability to compose in a strict classical 4-part chorale style.

Khan Manuel: ibanez deal in the bag

Regular readers of my blog may remember me raving about Sydney guitarist Khan Manuel and his debut album The Knight. The future’s looking a lot brighter for this local virtuoso - he’s just signed a two-year endorsement deal with global guitar giant Ibanez. He is currently the only Australian guitarist to be endorsed by the iconic brand.

The deal with the international instrument manufacturer promises to secure many opportunities for the local lad. It paves the way for Khan to conduct clinics with Paul Gilbert (Racer X, Mr. Big) and perform with other world-class Ibanez guitarists, including Joe Satriani, George Benson, and Steve Vai.

Matias Kupiainen: the deep unknown

I'm really looking forward to the new Stratovarious CD... one problem it arrives one day after the UK starts, the date I am going too... Oh have to make do with another video posted today... shredtastic for guitar and key shredders all over the world!

Chris Poland: quotes Alex Hunter as a great guitar player

Small world indeed... I listened to the great interview with Chris Poland:
"Black Night Meditations" radio show on Portsmouth, New Hampshire's WSCA 106.1 FM conducted an interview earlier this week with guitarist Chris Poland (OHM:, MEGADETH)

In the podcast you hear Chris talking about a great young player who wanted to play Peanut Buddha by Chris Poland... I remembered Alex telling me that he was planning to record this track... so it appeared to me that may be Chris was referring to Alex... well it turns out he was as Alex Hunter forwarded his email message from Chris Poland
"hey alex,

from Chris Poland...would love to hear ya play it ;0)

I saw this monster on My Space. Please let him know that he is not of this earth for sure and if wants to play any Ohm: song by all means let him.

News: problem with carpal tunnel... then this may be for you...

Call it RSI or Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, there's nothing that worries guitarists more than a sudden sharp pain that they can do nothing about... out go the daily long shredding exercises back to a depressed "Why me?" state.

This is a post for all you guitarists that may be affected by the painful disorder better known as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). This can be the result of the compression of nerves in the wrist due to repetitive (motion). This can be the consequence of many daily tasks that one does over and over again (typists for example often suffer from CTS).

Atanas Shishkov: neon mermaid

I just recently purchased Atanas Shishkov's back catalogue on CD... I love this guys smooth playing style... I can highly recdommend the releases. Atanas Shishkov says:
Atanas plays the song "The Neon Mermaid" from his album "Flying Colours"-2002. "This tune is again from my debut album "Flying Colours" recorded on 2002!
The backing track is based on a piano and string instead on a guitar and string as is the original. There are improved solo parts - i have played more picking licks as well as some tapping lines. I really enjoy playing this song, because it`s athmospheric, unusual and remind me an old inspiration. I hope you like with this tender tune! Atanas" Samples from "Flying Colours" can be heard in Atanas`official website
