String Theory ~ The Album

The guitar is a "one of a kind" instrument. Throughout the years, guitarists have pushed the limits of what the guitar can do. And so today the journey continues as the guitar and the players evolve. The "Six String Theory" album will seek to continue this process by combining superstar guitarists from the worlds of rock, blues, country, jazz/fusion, acoustic, and classical/flamenco genres. Some of the great international guitar players will join together to blend their styles into a unique new "fusion". The album, on Concord Records and Monster Music, will be produced by Lee Ritenour and John Burk and released in the Summer of 2010. As the record progresses, we'll post updates on our blog section and you'll also be able to give us your comments on the album and the competition.

Billy Gibbons: just got paid tab

TAB: ZZ Top "Just Got Paid"
Long before the Rip-Van-Winkle beards, spinning “belt-buckle” guitars, and über-cool music videos, ZZ Top was just a “little ol’ band from Texas.” “Just Got Paid” provides a trip back in time to the Lone Star trio’s beginnings. Learn the song...

News: guitar edge: burning blues young talent

Schofield’s brand of blues breathes fresh air into the genre melding together influences like funk, jazz, and New Orleans, while keeping true to the blues. Now, five years since that debut, Schofield, only a mere 32-years old, has arrived and is considered one of the premier blues guitarists of this generation. Read more...

Greg Koch: guitar edge lesson

LESSON: Greg Koch's Guitar Gumbo: Picked On (part 2)
Last month, I got so caught up in whining about my difficulties in delivering alternate picked savagery on the guitar with the consistency I desire that I forgot to mention that I am, by no means, a strict adherer to the rule that everything must be alternate picked. I don’t even know if that is possible, but I remember once hearing that Steve Morse (a leviathan of a pick wielder) alternate picked everything. And after hearing and then attempting to play the Dixie Dregs’ “Pride o’ the Farm” and the Steve Morse Band’s “Cruise Missile,” I was thoroughly convinced that such prowess on the guitar could only be achieved via monk-like devotion to the instrument. Although I was a dedicated guitarist by that time, a monk I was not. Read more...
