Judging:
Part 1: The PureSolo community will vote for their favourite entries using the 1-5 'LOVE it' voting system.
Part 2: The top 10% of entrants as voted by the PureSolo community will then be judged by an expert panel including Chris Vinnicombe, Guitar Editor at MusicRadar.com and Harvey Newquist, author and founder of the National Guitar Museum, plus one other panellist (stay tuned!), to create a Top 5 shortlist of entrants.
Part 3: Mark Knopfler will choose his winner from the Top 5 shortlist, including the order of the 4 runners up.

PLEASE NOTE VERY CAREFULLY THAT THESE CONTEST RULES ARE SPECIFIC TO THIS CONTEST (AND NO OTHER CONTEST). IN ADDITION, YOU MUST ALSO CAREFULLY READ ALL OF PURE SOLO'S TERMS AND CONDITIONS INCLUDING THE SECTION ON CONTESTS. THOSE TERMS AND CONDITIONS (TOGETHER WITH THESE CONTEST RULES) GOVERN THE RULES OF THIS COMPETITION (AND OTHER MATTERS CONCERNING PURE SOLO'S WEBSITE, YOUR USE OF IT AND YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THIS COMPETITION.
The competition is run by Pure Solo Limited.
Entrants to the competition must be individuals aged over 16. Proof of age, acceptable to PureSolo (Passport and/or Driving Licence) will be required for the winner or runners up.
In order to enter the competition, individuals must register and be signed in to the PureSolo website.
Entries are by upload using the PureSolo 'Share It' button of the entrants own recording of their guitar playing onto one or more of the 3 eligible tracks. Each eligible track costs £1.99/$2.99.
Audio or audio/visual recordings are eligible for this competition.
Entries will be accepted between June 14th at 12:00 noon GMT and August 31st 2010 at 18:00 GMT based on time of receipt by PureSolo.
All shared recordings (using the 'Share It' button) of eligible tracks will be automatically entered into the competition (subject to territorial licensing) as well as being displayed on your profile.
Entrants can submit multiple competition entries of eligible tracks but, in the case of multiple versions of the same song being entered, votes cannot be combined or transferred from one entry to another and in the case of multiple entries the highest scoring entry will be the designated entry. An excessive level of multiple entries may lead to disqualification if the organisers deem it necessary in their sole discretion.
A shortlist of 10% of the entrants (not entries) (up to a maximum of 500) will be determined by votes cast by registered users of the PureSolo website between June 14th, 2010 at 12:00 GMT and August 31st 2010 at 18:00 GMT.
The PureSolo community votes using the PureSolo ‘Love it’ voting system. Choices are 1-5, with 5 being the highest ranking. Voters must be logged in to vote. Voters get to vote for any PureSoloist once and cannot vote for themselves. New or less active users may be required to click on a confirmation email to confirm validity. Voters should vote based upon skill, potential and style. The integrity of voting and participating in Contests is of the utmost importance to Pure Solo and its Users and if we reasonably consider the integrity has been compromised, we may take such action as we consider appropriate in the circumstances.
An expert panel appointed by the organisers will chose the winner and runners from the top 10% of entrants (not entries) (up to a maximum of 500) with the highest 'Love it' rankings as awarded by the community (subject to proof of eligibility). The panel will choose 5 finalists and Mark Knopfler will select the winner and the order of the runners up.
The prize is non-transferrable, changeable, or refundable and no cash alternative will be offered.
Competitions are not open to PureSolo employees, officers or shareholders, or employees of its affiliated companies and subsidiaries, nor to any sponsors of the contest, or the immediate families of such employees or sponsors, nor anyone on the panel or those associated with the judges. Mark Knopfler is not eligible!
By submitting an entry to any Competition, you grant Pure Solo the right to use your entry, name and likeness for advertising and publicity purposes without additional compensation and you agree to participate in any reasonable promotional activities requested by PureSolo or the sponsor of the Competition, including on YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
Entrants who do not comply fully with the requirements for Competition winners as outlined above or breach any of the terms and conditions, may be disqualified as a winner and an alternative winner may be selected. PureSolo has the right to eliminate or disqualify any competition entrant if the authenticity of the recording cannot be proven.
Competition winners are solely responsible for all insurance, applicable taxes and for any expenses not specified in the prize description.
Shortlisted entries will be notified by email and must respond by September 14th 2010 at 12:00 noon GMT.
A list of 4 runners up will be kept and may be notified up to September 17th 2010 at 12:00 noon GMT in the event the winner fails to claim the top prize.
The prize mentoring session will be before the end of September 2010 in the UK subject to Mark’s availability.
The organisers are not responsible for undelivered emails nor any computer or system errors, bugs, etc.
Entries must not contain anything that is defamatory, obscene, or infringes anyone’s copyrights.
PureSolo reserves the right but is not obliged to monitor entries and entrants and can, at its absolute discretion, remove and block entries if PureSolo finds them inappropriate in any way.
Please note carefully that copyright exists in these songs and you cannot use them for any commercial or other purposes except as outlined in these competition rules or PureSolo’s terms and conditions.
Users must submit their own personal performance and are not allowed to use anyone else’s recordings or samples. Furthermore PureSolo may require evidence confirming this.
Entrants are responsible for any third parties appearing on their entry or profile being aware of these terms and conditions.
Performances or entries will be judged by the community and panel based on the guitar performance only, regardless of vocal or instrumental accompaniment.
This competition is open to guitarists of all standards.

Display methodology:
Uploaded tracks will be displayed on the competition pages in the following categories:
Current Leaders – the Top 5 will be displayed.
Recent Entries – as they are uploaded.
All Entries – these are sorted and re-sorted on a random basis to ensure fair representation of all entries.
