Michael Angelo Batio,Andreas Haukenes: MAB shows what a true guitar star he is.

I have a lot of time for Michael Angelo Batio and Andreas Haukenes. So It's really great to see Michael Angelo Batio offering some sage words of encouragement and advice to guitar players... that's worth five stars in my book!

Michael Angelo Batio:
O.K. You talked me into it....... YB, I am going to offer a few criticisms that I think will help. But before I do, let me mention the things that I thought were good. You have a nice vibrato. I liked the arp's later in the solo. I liked your overall tone. The things that I think you need to work on are first and foremost, the way you play hammers and pulls. Around the 30 to 33 second mark was the sign for me. You have a sluggish hammer and pull off technique which makes the listener feel that you are slightly behind the beat. Try to play them right on the beat. That's one of the reasons why players like Vinnie Moore and Michael Schenker, to name a few, sound so good. Their H and P timing is "spot on." Also, I know this is mostly a Dorian mode solo section, but I would use some wider intervals. It makes it sound more "fusionish." (Nice word, huh?!) All in all it was good. This is the first time I have ever critiqued anyone's playing on line. I don't mean to be too harsh and again, am sincerely trying to help. The main reason I do not like to criticize is a saying that I live by - advice - "Wise men don't need it and fools won't heed it!" Still, YB, thanks for sharing and for the support.
