News: DiMarzio pre-wired solderless pickguards... a gift from heaven!

Now this is clever... I'm the sort of bloke that ends up not doing work if it looks to complicated or if I think I'm going to ruin an expensive treasured possession. Now those clever boffins at DiMarzio have relieved my pain by providing a more painless way to do DIY on my guitar and not leave me with just an expensive plank of wood and a pile of strings. So what have they done? Well the boys over at DiMarzio now offer pre-wired pickguards and pickup sets with solderless installation. The prewired pickguards are direct drop-in replacements with no soldering or assembly required. The prewired sets include all pickups and controls ready to install and connect with no soldering!!! At last epic Win!! For full details read the supporting documents.

Guitar guards covered include Stratocasters, Teles and Les Pauls!

Now you're saying... but is it really that straight forward? Well check out the installation video... at last a chance for my guitar to sound great!

Kosta Vreto: Paul DiAnno rockrace tour interview

Kosta Vreto:
First of all I have to say it's a huge honor to play along side a musician idol like Paul DiAnno and I'm glad I have this opportunity. Except from the shivering feeling of sharing the stage with Mr Beast himself, I really don't find it hard in any matter and let me explain my point on that. Most of the playlist consists of early Iron Maiden songs that I've been listening since a teenager, so the tunes are really fixed on my mind. As for the Paul Dianno songs, they are familiar to me and I consider them to be great heavy metal tunes.Technically, the hardest thing I find in these songs is to get the right feeling onstage as they are recorded, but I am overconfident in this matter as the band is consisted of really great musicians. From a physical aspect, things will be a lot easier. After all I've been quite busy preparing, playing at least two or three live shows everyweek for the last five or so years.

Rockrace: Which Greek cities are you gonna visit?
Kosta Vreto: The tour will begin in my hometown Thessaloniki on May 18th and after that we're going to visit Volos (May 19th), Patra(May 20th), Athens(May21st) and our last stop is at Chania(May 22nd).

Ron Jarzombek: Watchtower looking for a new singer

May 11, 2010 - "Well, this isn't something we've wanted to do but taking everything into consideration it's a step we had to take:  We have decided to part ways with Alan Tecchio and look for a new vocalist.  We know this announcement may come as a shock to many who've heard our new song, 'The Size of Matter', and saw us live with Alan in Germany last month. Alan did a great job on 'Matter' and we had a blast getting back together on stage so this isn't about the usual musical or personal differences.  We want to wish Alan good luck in his future endeavors, including his upcoming Bang Your Head!!! show with HADES.

"We've had several discussions concerning the future ofWATCHTOWER leading up to our Keep It True show and since then about what we would like to accomplish with our new album.  One major aspect of that is playing live and being able to take advance of possible touring opportunities in order to maximize the potential we see in 'Mathematics.'  We have always felt that the true strength of WATCHTOWER is that of live band rather than what've we done in the studio. And with record sales being what they are these days being able to tour and establishing a live presence becomes that much more important.  Unfortunately, we all have our own economic realities to deal with and Alan simply could not give us the kind of commitment now that we know we will require in the forseeable future in order to promote 'Mathematics' in a live capacity.  So rather than putting out 'Mathematics' with a singer we know will not be able to tour with us, we've decided to end things now and look for someone new who is ready, willing, and able to go it all the way with the band.

"We are under no illusion that finding that voice forWATCHTOWER will be an easy task, especially if our last singer search back in the early 90's is anything to go by. But, we are hopeful that with the help of the internet we'll be able to cast a wider net and find that needle in a haystack this time. We are looking for someone who has a grasp of the mechanics of music, i.e. an understanding of time signature changes, a good sense of timing, can write melodies, and is willing to go a little nuts with us on stage. We'd prefer someone in Texas, though we understand the geography may require flexibility to get the right person. If you sound like a cross between  Devin TownsendGeddy LeeMyles Kennedy, and Russell Allenand have the crazy stage personality of a Mike Patton - we want to hear from you!  If you ARE Devin, Geddy, Myles or Russ - we want to hear from you!  For any potential candidates not familiar with the madness of WATCHTOWER - you can listen to 'The Size of Matter'

and watch recent video of 'Tyrants In Distress' from the Keep It Truefestival in Germany

to get an idea of what you'd be getting yourself into.
"If all that doesn't scare you off, please send samples of your work (links are preferred) and a brief outline of your musical background and experience to watchtowerTX@gmail.com.  If we hear something that might be a good fit, we will get in touch with you and take things from there."

Misha Mansoor: Atomic MB-50 Poweramp with the Fractal AxeFx Ultra

Jake and I decided to do a little video demoing some sounds and old/new Periphery riffs on an AxeFx Ultra going through this awesome new tube poweramp made by Atomic. We were getting such sweet sounds with this setup that we are all going to be switching to AxeFx for our live rigs!

The MB-50 a very compact 50 watt mono poweramp that runs on a pair of 6L6 tubes, and it weighs only 15 lbs!!

Jake and I are both using our brand new Ibanez RGA420z guitars with a Dimarzio Crunchlab/Liquifire set of pickups, both tuned to CGCFAD and strung up with 10-56 gauge SIT strings.
Jake is also using his Ibanez S7420FM with a Dimarzio X2N7 in the bridge and that is tuned BbDbAbDbGbBbEb and is strung up with 10-64 gauge SIT strings.
