News: dirtbox cleans up

DIRTBOX IS (FINALLY) OPEN!!
After a lot of setbacks I am pleased to announce that Dirtbox.net is now officially re-opened! So what’s been happening? In late April I closed Dirtbox for a site reshuffle that I hoped would only take a few days. I bought my own webspace and shifted the site across to that but...

WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?
How often have you heard a couple of cool overdrive pedals on youtube or somehwere and then had to go searching around several websites in order to find more information about it? Lots of times, exactly. Welcome to Dirt Box. Dirt Box is designed to gather all of that information for you...

Paco Hernandez: cheap guitar shredding

Paco Hernandez:
I recorded a short video, fast and unedited audio environment with my new-old guitar. I love the sound of pileup: keep in mind that 11 years ago cost me 20,000 pesetas second hand, and now must go and by the fourth or fifth hand xD ... Pa you to see what can be done with an old guitar cheap...

In the video section you can see the very few musical things I´ve managed to write in the last year or more.

Yeah, it needs it, it´s my first guitar, which I sold over 10 years ago and miraculously I found again! :-D If you check the video here, it sounds pretty, pretty good for a 15 year- 90 euros and 3th or 4th hand guitar.

Bryan Aspey: Composition and Improvisation

Bryan Aspey:
Composition and Improvisation

Today I received a question from a friend on YouTube who prompted me to share my thoughts on composition and improvisation. Here's the question:

hi bryan,
i have one question concerning the solo in the shred this competition:
did you improvise it or was it a composed solo?
id be happy to know!!!

Great question! All of my recorded solos begin as improvisation, then gradually become crafted into composition. I love to improvise, and try to keep the spirit of improvisation in mind whenever I play, but my personal approach is based on my belief that:

Composition is improvisation captured and perfected

Marcel Coenen: Bo-El model guitar up for sale

Marcel Coenen:
One of my Bo-El guitars is for sale since today.

I noticed I am not using it anymore since I got my new Bo-El models, so this guitar is better off to a new guitarist.

The guitar is my Signature Bo-El MC6 model, Tobacco SunBurst, Floyd Rose bridge, Shark inlay (double)

Specs:

The guitar has a lot of options, like a carved solid body, 5 way pickup selector, a on/off switch, a phase switch, two humbuckers (Bo~El HB-SD /6, also single coil splittable), licensed under floyd rose type of tremolo .
The guitar is made of a two piece hard ash body with a thin hardrock maple set neck. The neck is from rosewood with a shark inlay, 24 Jumbo frets. Ofcourse the guitar also has the wellknown “all access” neck/body connection which makes playing on the highest posiutions really easy.
Scalelength: 647.7 mm

This guitar is out of print and won't be reproduced again, so it is already a collectors item !

The guitar is set up by myself and has been taken care of constantly.

It has a little bit of using marks, but in general it is in really good condition.

Here is a video of me playing a solo on the guitar during a concert (this is also to be seen at my live DVD)

Price: 800 euro's

Joe Pinnavaia: breakerbox

Joe Pinnavaia:
Hello everyone! It's been a while so I thought I would give you all a quick update. Things have been busy since the birth of my son Rio but I have managed to finish two more tracks for the 2nd "Rhino" record that will be titled "Fragile X." Two of the 4 tracks so far have been released for preview - "Night at the Carnival" and "Enki, Enlil and the Garden of E.Din." The next two tracks "Jacob's Ladder" and "Ascension in the Desert" have been completed and mixed. I'm always excited to share new music so I'll either do an album teaser or make them a full preview for a limited time for all of the fans!

"Ascension in the Desert" will be available on a compilation CD due out this year featuring artists from all over the world - China, Greece, UK,and of course the States - in printed CD's 10,000 strong! I'll keep you all in the loop on how to get this record when it's available.

I'm still looking at the possibility of a "one man show" with a live Test Tube Rhino set but we'll see what comes of that. Also a live guitar duo is going well with fellow Buffalo based guitarist Vincent Mastrantonio (Vincent James Explosion) and should be ready before July for shows!

Also BREAKERBOX has released their first video of the single "Nobody Gets Me."

Breakerbox- Nobody Gets Me- Official Music Video

“Test Tube Rhino is a killer project made up of killer tracks, killer writing and playing. Creative, diverse, interesting and gripping are all words I would use to describe this music”. "  Tom Hess, Tom Hess Music Corporation

"...very reminiscent of a certain Mr Fripp and his adventurous freedom of note choice and relaxed approach do call to mind Joe Satriani – all simmeringly quite cosily together in the sort of controlled sonic gumbo that needs a little spice…..which of course he adds in the form of some blazing modern techno-fetish lines."  Dave Thompson, Shred-Reviews.co.uk

"As a one-man project, Test Tube Rhino could suffer from a lack of diversity – but it doesn’t. Understated numbers like “I’m Not Doing Anything to Feel Sorry” shows Joey P. has a deft touch with supple lead guitar figures. "  Christopher J. Kelter, Rough Edge.com
