Greg Howe: guitarnoize interview

I recently had the honour of interviewing guitar legend and fusion master Greg Howe, one of my personal guitar heroes so please excuse the silly smile on my face! I had been experiencing connection problems the week of the interview unfortunately so the video and sound quality was not as good as normal but if you are interested in lessons and concerned about your connection please contact Greg through his website www.greghowe.com and he will organise a test so you can see how the Skype lesson will work.

news: Bluetooth page turning using iPad

Bluetooth page turning footswitch for Guitarists using iPads to read Tabs hands-free:
"AirTurn, Inc. is introducing a first look at its prototype Bluetooth BT-105 page turner footswitch for the iPad and other Bluetooth-equipped computers. While the iPad is a terrific tool for reading digital sheet music, its functionality is actually hampered by the need to touch or swipe the screen to turn pages. For musicians who need both hands to play their instruments, removing a hand to momentarily touch the screen for page turns can be distracting at best and disruptive to the music at worst.

The AirTurn BT-105 automatic page turner footswitch is being designed for musicians who need to turn sheet music pages hands free. The AirTurn BT-105 connects wirelessly to an iPad or other Bluetooth-equipped computer and is triggered by foot switches to turn pages forwards and backwards. Some apps and programs that feature half page zoomed views of the music will also feature the ability to turn pages with the Bluetooth AirTurn half a page at a time. The final version of the AirTurn BT-105 will be miniaturized.

By allowing musicians to keep their hands on their instrument at all times, the Bluetooth AirTurn makes computers and tablet devices like the iPad fully usable as digital sheet music readers. Page turns are almost ""magical"" and completely discreet with a simple tap of the foot, allowing musicians to fully focus on the music itself.

The AirTurn BT-105 is expected to be available Q4 2010.

AirTurn, Inc., a Boulder, Colorado based company, creates and markets technologies to enhance the study, practice and performance of music. Airturn was formed in 2008. Its co-founder and VP of Communications, Hugh Sung, is also a professional pianist on the faculty of the world-renowned Curtis Institute of Music and one of the most sought-after collaborative pianists in the classical music field.

More details on AirTurn and its current line of page turning systems can be found at AirTurn's website www.AirTurn.com"

News: Bristol UK guitar show announced

Former Clarion NEC man teams up with specialist distributor for new consumer show September 19th will see the launch of the Bristol Guitar Show, the first in a series of planned regional shows from a new event organiser, UK Guitar Shows.

The new company is a collaboration between the former Music Live manager, Jason Hunt, and Jason Castle, the owner of guitar specialist distributor, High End Guitars, bringing together some 23 years of combined experience in guitars and events.

The event is to be held over three halls at Bristol City Football Club’s Ashton Gate stadium and is planned to be a straightforward ‘table-top’ format, giving an even hand to all potential exhibitors.

Manufacturers, distributors, retailers, luthiers and private sellers will all figure at the show, with dedicated electric guitar, acoustic guitar and live room halls, creating separate identities for each of the sections within the show.

“We’re really excited about this inaugural show," said Hunt. "UK Guitar Shows is all about taking events back to the grassroots with very affordable rates for both exhibitors and visitors. The events landscape has changed enormously in the last two years and, judging by the response we’ve had from exhibitors so far, there is a real appetite for value, focused events such as this.”

Tickets for the show are priced at £6.50 in advance and £8.50 on the door. More information on the show is available at the event's website http://www.ukguitarshows.co.uk/

George Lynch: revolution magazine on line interview

Q: Are you a perfectionist or difficult to work with?
A: Depends on who you talk to (laughs). Some might say I am, but I don’t think I am. I like to work as a band and have everybody’s involvement. When I do my guitar parts, I like to have someone there from the band that knows about guitar and can offer me feedback. I like writing with the band. This Souls of We record, we wrote in 10 days in a room. You know, that’s fun. I don’t like working in a vacuum. That’s the rewarding part of being in a band and focusing on songs.
