Steve Howe: premier guitar interview

Interview: Steve Howe on Asia's "Omega," Touring with Yes, and the Steve Howe Trio
Between this year's Yes and Asia tours and albums, Steve Howe has somehow managed to find time to play jazz with his trio and craft a "homebrew" album. We talk to the guitarist about juggling his schedules, gear for each gig, changing lineups, and jazz arrangements of Yes songs
You have back-to-back Yes and Asia tours. It must be hectic.
The Yes tour finishes tomorrow and the Asia tour starts in about two weeks. We’ve already played Europe and Japan this year. Asia has been quite busy working, and then the Yes tour begins. I get a two-week break between tours. I’m used to being busy. It’s not all of my life that I’ve been in two groups—I find it quite interesting that I have two positions to hold up.
Is it a challenge to organize practice time to maintain your chops for both groups?
I enjoy being organized. Organization just takes organization, and I’m a very organizational person. I’m always ready when the next thing is due to start happening, so I enjoy being prepared.

News: Guitar Idol 2010 - Think song first!

Guitar Idol 2010 is well under way. I've been trying to keep up with the videos being added... but it's a tough job. I'll be publishing the better new videos when they are posted. Well there are 83 videos added as I type.

Now if you are entering, try and think of this is an opportunity to showcase your song writing abilities and layer that with your guitar skills. It really is important to create a memorable tune, rather than just shredding over a drone. This is reiterated in the competition rules. So think long and hard about delivering a tune first!

Guitar Idol 2010 – The Rules
Compose an original guitar composition that showcases your guitar playing and musical ability to the max! You can use any jam tracks and backing tracks of generic rock, blues, metal etc grooves, but the guitar part that you are playing must be an original composition

What are we looking for:
Originality, technical dexterity, strong compositional and stylistic ability, taste, feel and phrasing.

These are the full rules for the competition: http://guitaridol.tv/rules

These are the current submitted videos: http://guitaridol.tv/videos/

I'll wish everyone who enters all the best! Good Luck!

Remember how this all started:

Torben Enevoldsen: Lion Music virtuoso interview

Danish guitarist Torben Enevoldsen might be best known as the guitarist in Section A, but there is another side to him with 3 instrumental albums under his belt, each one a fine example of a very disciplined guitar player who only shreds when shredding is required. He has some great rhythm work and writes his music as some of the more accessible instrumental music you will hear.

News: Truth In Shredding new design and posting

I've rolled out the latest design for Truth In shredding: http://www.truthinshredding.com/. This is the 3rd design this year. I have moved to blogger's new template designer which has less flexibility than my other tool, but it does mean I can rely on only needing blogger to change the web site designs. If you are interested you can use blogger in draft to check out the features http://draft.blogger.com/. With the addition of standalone pages, blogger would be my quick web site designer of choice. Certainly if I was a guitar player looking for a quick and cheap job that can easily be updated by yourself, then I would go this root.

This has fixed the IE 8 problems. I also tested in chrome and firefox. I have also changed the post model to only have the last five posts on the home page. This was to reduce load times and make it easier for people with lower power machines. This means you'll have to click on older posts link at the foot er of the page or use the archive links to get to the posts in the day if there are more than 5 (that's most days)

Please feedback about these changes.
