Guthrie Govan: The Aristocrats, Frank Teger mini review

Lucky Frank Teger getting to see those naughty The Aristocrats boys:

Sometimes, un-expectantly, you experience things in life that bring you a greater awareness of the world around you. What I witnessed this night made me realize that there is Pop(ular) Music that is geared to masses of people who view music as "Background" music, and then there is the music created by MUSICIANS, that don’t prescribe to a particular genre. The kinds of musicians that are the true reflection of the 10,000 Hour Rule (Malcolm Gladwell). Guthrie Govain - Guitar, Marco Minnemann - Drums, Bryan Beller - Bass.
What these 3 men did last night was just simply amazing. Moving from complex counterpoint styles of playing of Guthrie and Marco to the melodic and lush vibe that Bryan Beller brought to the mix created an atmosphere that just brought awe to the people who attended this show at the Hiro Ballroom. The song Blues Fuckers written by Marco Minnemann was an example of how the minds of these guys work, taking endings of one blues riff and joining it seamlessly with another blues groove or riff. Songs like Flatlands showed the Song compositional style of Bryan Beller that I so love and of course you have Guthrie Govain's Erotic Cakes and Waves that just blew our minds. The set list posted in this Album was more a Guideline as a song that blew me away that was written by Marco is not on the list. I think it was called Train Tray or something like that, the impeccable Groove that Marco laid down while Bryan and Guthrie played against and with each other was spectacular. Quite a few times I just had to smile and shake my head . From the audience I heard , "Oh God", "Nice!", "No Fuckin Way" "Jeesh" all exclamations of joy and disbelief at was being created on the stage/ Truly a memorable experience!!!!! If you're looking to boogie and dance or hang with the crowd as "POP" Music fills the air, go somewhere else, but if you want to be moved by talent and feel the danger of 3 guys pushing the limit of musicianship that takes you to the brink of chaos and then pulls you back into reality, Go See the ARISTOCRATS!!! full photo gallery
