Guthrie Govan: the Aristocrat makes it to the big time!

Besides working on getting the debut album from this super power trio finished, I've been super busy planning and organizing short regional tours for this band and here's what I have so far. A short US west coast tour in late-June and a Far East tour of Korea and Japan in July-August are essentially set in stone.

U.S. WEST COAST

June 18 Sat 6PM - Wild West Guitars / Voodoo Lounge in Riverside, CA
http://wildwestguitars.com/guthrie_govan.htm

June 19 Sun 6PM - Alva's Showroom in San Pedro, CA (60 seats only)
http://alvasshowroom.com/index.php

June 21 Tue 9PM and 11PM (two sets) - The Baked Potato in Studio City, CA
June 22 Wed 9PM and 11PM (two sets) - The Baked Potato in Studio City, CA
June 24 Fri 8PM and 10PM (two sets) - Biscuits & Blues' Union Room in San Francisco, CA

FAR EAST ASIA
July 18 ~ July 23 - Two concerts and two TV show concerts in Seoul, Korea
July 25 ~ Aug 2 - Seven shows in Sendai, Koriyama, Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka, and Kochi

U.S. / CANADA NORTHEAST - Dates, venues and showtimes to be announced
Sep 24 Sat - Southeastern Guitar and Amp Show in Raleigh, NC

We're working on the exact dates and other details for the following cities and we expect to have everything finalized by the end of May.

Washington DC
New York City
Boston (Berklee Performance Center)
Burlington, VT
Montreal, Canada
Toronto, Canada
Chicago, Illinois
This US/Canada tour will cover Sep 24 ~ Oct 9. More info to come. Stay tuned!
Europe?

We're shooting for early-November but other things will need to fall into place first. The countries we're looking at for Europe are:

UK, Netherlands, France, Sweden, Germany, Italy, and Spain. Can't guarantee that we'll make it to all of 'em but we're starting to get the feelers out now.

Guthrie is finally getting the recognition he deserves in the mainstream guitar press. The July issue of Guitar Player will feature Guthrie on the cover with a big article/interview story that heralds the arrival of a major talent in the guitar scene. The issue will hit the newsstands in early-June.

It's been a long time coming but better late than never and this is only the beginning because Guthrie's career is still at the early stages with just one solo album and the Aristocrats super power trio album still in the works. I'm planning a lot of clinic-concert tours for the remainder of this year and all of 2012.

The attendance during these tours has been rising steadily over the past few years and that last show of the tour in January culminated with nearly 1,000 people at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston on Jan 28, '11. Here is a pic of the venue around 10 minutes before the start of Guthrie's concert with the Jon Finn Group. The Guthrie Era has arrived, folks, and it's only getting started...

Steve Hackett: interview and live classics

On the Guitars & Equipment page you also mention that you use “a Zoom 9050 unit for some of the more extreme effects.” Provide a few examples.
The material on Live Rails doesn't feature as much zoom stuff. The DigiTech Whammy Pedal has largely superseded it. From past tracks, "Mechanical Bride" from To Watch the Storms album used the zoom extensively.

You’ve made extensive use of the Fernandes Sustainer over the years. Describe the ways in which you have had to modify your playing to adapt to both the possibilities and the limitations inherent in the device.
Some guitarists mute naturally by resting their hand on the bridge between phrases. You have to do this if you're using the Sustainer pick-up, especially in high harmonic mode. It can run away with you, but it's the nearest thing to playing through the whirlwind of feedback so familiar to Hendrix fans, with the benefit of achieving the same effect at low volume.

The Floyd Rose appears to be your vibrato of choice. Why?
I find it the most durable of all the systems I've tried.

This is very important –it may take some time to coordinate the lesson. All artists that appear on this benefit album have in most cases written and recorded their songs especially for ‘Embrace The Sun’, and in a number of cases these tracks represent the first recorded output with new band line-ups i.e. Ashent (new vocalist Titta Tani), Astra (new vocalist Andrea Casali), Venturia (new vocalistFlorine Acquisto and drummer Frédéric Marchal) and Iron Mask (new vocalist Carsten ‘Lizard’ Schulzand drummer Ramy Ali).

Milan Polak is joined by some special guests in guitarists Peter Lesperance (Harem Scarem) and Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal (Guns N’ Roses), whilst Kip Winger (Winger) performs bass guitar and drums come courtesy of Dennis Leeflang (Bumblefoot / Lita Ford) for the track ‘End Of Time’ which is completed by background vocals from Harry Hess (Harem Scarem).

The album also showcases some home-grown Japanese talent in new label signing, progressive rockers Early Cross, whilst the direct influence of the aftermath in Japan can be heard on Jennifer Batten’s track ‘Sakura Season’ was written after her visit to the country in April 2011.

Virtuoso guitarists unite for the closing title track which sees solos from Milan Polak, Francesco Fareri,Daniel Palmqvist (The Murder Of My Sweet), Simone Fiorletta (No Gravity), Dave Martone, Borislav Mitic, Franck Ribiere (Double Heart Project) and Lars Eric Mattsson.

Elsewhere the album is full of excellent new tracks that run the gamut from heavy and powerful to tender and emotional across a number of rock and metal styles.

Millions have been affected by the tsunami following the massive earthquake off the coast of Japan and all artists involved and all staff at Lion Music hope that the revenue generated from this release will hopefully make some difference to those affected who look to ‘Embrace The Future’.
