Hey guys! This is my entry for 94.1 JJO's "Play with All That Remains" guitar contest, Sorry if the solo isn't perfect :/ I did it by ear. All That Remains - Hold On 94.1 JJO Guitar Contest

Please..don't watch this!

SO...I WASN'T GOING TO UPLOAD THIS VIDEO , but I just figured why not. I thought maybe I could try and be productive and answer questions, but that didn't work.. and this is kind of what happened... After reviewing it, I have come to the conclusion that:
a.) my moms mac hates me (for I do not normally sound like such a "bro") lol
b.) that I have REALLY BAD ADHD! swivel chairs+sarah= 0 concentration.

c.) I will (in all likelihood) still encounter all of the same questions, and this really doesn't bother me, I think I just like to talk.

Anyway, please don't hate me for this video, it was really just for fun and I love to mess around. But the questions at the end are serious, and I would be more than grateful for your insight! :D

Brian Larkin: awesome guest solos

Brian Larkin:
I was invited to play a few short bits in a trade-off solo section from a song on my friend's band's latest release. This is not from the final mix of the song, but these are the takes that will be used on the album. The 3rd one will not be used at all, but I thought this would be a good way of documenting its existence. I had fun with these, so I hope you enjoy!

I'm keeping everything nameless for the time being, but details on the band, the album, the people involved in making the album, a release date, links to where you can purchase the songs, etc. will be posted as they become available and as I'm given permission to release them...

Thanks for watching!

Jarle H Olsen: Guitar Noize reviews Quadrasonic

‘Quadrasonic‘ is a very atmospheric sounding album and features some amazing technical melodic playing I particularly liked the final 3 part suite (if I can call it that) called ‘Osiris‘, ‘The Omnipotence‘, ‘The Resurrection‘ and ‘Journey To Duat‘ all very distinct sounding and ‘Journey…‘ has an awesome odd time riff. Try this album if you like modern progressive shred instrumental albums by artists such as Jeff Loomis, John Petrucci and Marco Sfogli. more

Chris Broderick: visualise what your playing

You have such a wide variety of musical knowledge, whether we’re talking about your classical training or your metal experience. Can you suggest some particular methods or techniques that you feel will really take someone’s playing to the next level?
I think the big thing that I always discounted in the beginning even though I read studies on it was the idea of visual practice. A lot of studies have stated that visual practice is about 80 percent effective as doing real guitar in-hand practice. So whether you’re sitting down just listening to a metronome and visualizing yourself playing something or you’re actually doing it, it’s actually almost as beneficial. In a way, it’s actually started to really help me – even when I have the instrument on my hands. Instead of looking at my hands, I’ll be looking out at the crowd. I’ll be visualizing what I’m playing as I’m playing it instead of watching what I’m doing on the fretboard. I think that’s a huge thing that people can do or use as an aide. Not only that, in your mind you can play anything perfect, right? You want to make sure that when you do visual practice that you always visualize it being played perfectly.
Where did you originally hear about the idea of visual practice?
There are studies that I had read about. Some of my prior classical instructors talked about it. I remember reading an article in which Eliot Fisk was on a plane to a gig. He had to play a piece that he had never played before. He gets on the plane and opens up the music, and he starts reading the music and starts to visualize playing it. By the time he landed, he was actually able to execute the piece and play the piece. It’s a huge benefit because you can’t pull your guitar out when you’re in coach! more

A riff idea for project with Olly Steele from Monuments/Cyclamen, sorry for the sketchy playing, and vid quality. The drums are just there for reference... the chordy riff that comes in second probably might not be used..the real thing is going to sound a hell of a lot cooler, tighter, and bigger in your face
