Jason Becker: Not Dead Yet is hands down my favorite film so far this year. Jesse Vile’s music documentary chronicles the life of the metal guitar prodigy/virtuoso who was on his way to the top of the rock world when – at age 20 and about to go on tour with David Lee Roth – he was diagnosed with the degenerative illness amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, aka Lou Gehrig’s disease) and given a few years to live. More than two decades later, Becker is not only not dead yet but is still creating music despite losing his ability to talk or move, thanks to what might be the most supportive family ever put on film. full story
