LUNATICS - " Circle of Fire album " _ ( Marcelo Souza , Maurício Leite e Felipe Castro )
NO LIMITS - MARCELO SOUZA "Circle of Fire albums"
Welcome to the new Lick Of The Week, This week I wanted to do something a little different and show you some song writing tips. I think it is a cool thing to use Drum loops to help inspire song writing. I use Drum Core and Easy Drummer software and they sound great. I want you to use this idea and write a tune by finding a certain kind of groove and then jamming to it and write melodies and chords. Another cool thing to do is to even use the beat to just solo over it. Thanks and stay tuned to more Lick Of The Weeks.
Please join me next week at NAMM 2012 Jan 19,20 and 21 at the Studio Devil Booth I will be hangin and demoing and playing to tracks.. Don't forget to bring me some Devils Juice ;-)

Hey! That's not actually my video. It's a project of my friend Józef Rusinowski, amazing 19 years old drummer. He asked me if I can record a guest solo on it and upload the video on my channel, because he's too busy to do that hehe

Zoe have just released their first album, recorded live at the studio. The Brazilian trio's sound is a mix of the members diverse influences and backgrounds - Abraao Souza's laid-back and elegant bass lines, Diego Marins and his creative drumming and Grua's odd fusion of indie/alternative and modern fusion concepts in guitar.
The end result is an album that borders on both post-rock and jazz-rock, a sonic experience enriched by brazilian rhythms and harmonies from Bossa to Baiao.
Flying Colors, the spectacular new virtuoso prog/pop/rock band, featuring drummer Mike Portnoy (ex-Dream Theater) and guitarist Steve Morse (Deep Purple), will release their eponymous debut album in the UK on Monday March 26th, followed by a US release on Tuesday March 27th.
Released by Music Theories Recordings, the debut album includes the talents of Mike Portnoy (drums, vocals), Dave LaRue (bass), Neal Morse(keyboards, vocals), Casey McPherson (lead vocals, guitar), and Steve Morse (lead guitar). "The album has bits and pieces of what you'd expect from each of us,” says Portnoy. “The sum of all its parts led to brand new, unchartered territory for everyone involved." Click here to read the full web press release and download hi res photos - www.noblepr.co.uk/Press_Releases/mascot/flyingcolors.htm.
The formation of Flying Colors began with a simple idea: virtuoso musicians and a pop singer joining together to make new-fashioned music the old fashioned way. Refreshing, classic, old and new, the recordings are saturated with the many styles, tones and hues of the players who, in becoming a band, have delivered a unique fusion of vintage craftsmanship and contemporary music.
Mike Portnoy was the co-founding member and drummer for one of the world’s biggest prog metal bands “Dream Theater”. Neal Morse is the co-founding member of the prog rock band Spock’s Beard and is currently the prog rock supergroup “Transatlantic”. David LaRue plays bass for the Dixie Dregs and has also worked with Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. Steve Morse has been playing lead guitar for Deep Purple for the last 16 years. Founder and leader of “Alpha Rev”, Casey McPherson, has enjoyed major success in the US with multiple hits including the song “New Morning”.
"It was quite an experience,” recalls Dave LaRue. “The band moved at a fast pace, ideas flying around the room at all times. Sections of tunes were arranged, and then re-arranged. Ideas were tried every which way until we made them work, or, in some cases, discarded them altogether. Just keeping track of everything was a challenge!" The album is filled with trial and triumph. It's been an inspiring challenge melding folk, prog, pop, and metal all into one big recording."

Have you heard about the groundbreaking new musical instrument called the harpejji? If not, here's the scoop: The harpejji is captivating people all over the world, making its way onto Oscar-nominated films, the Academy Awards stage, Grammy-nominated albums, prime-time television, arena concerts and more. Read on!
What is a Harpejji?
Pronounced "har-PEH-jee", the harpejji is a member of a small family of stringed instruments known as tapping instruments. Tapping instruments are descendants of the electric guitar that have been optimized for a method of playing that includes tapping on a string to produce a note. Unlike other tapping instruments, the harpejji utilizes patented design features to make it amazingly comfortable to play, easy to navigate and capable of more expressive techniques, such as strumming. The end result is a powerfully expressive tool for making music, not to mention a whole new way to think about music. Two models are available, the 16-string G16 ($1999) and the 24-string K24 ($3999).
Legendary Canadian hard rockers SAGA, have reunited with vocalist Michael Sadler who parted ways with the band in 2007 and was subsequently replaced by Rob Moratti who appeared on their 2009 release, The Human Condition.
The band has issued the following statement:
"To put all the rumours to rest, we are happy to officially announce that Michael Sadler is once again the singer and frontman in Saga!! The new studio CD and tour news with Michael will be up very soon! We wish Rob all the best in the future with his new solo CD!"
Forming in 1977, Saga was launched into rock stardom in 1983 when MTV started spinning the singles to their fourth album, World's Apart. 'On The Loose' proved to be their breakthrough in America and peaked at #26 on the Billboard Charts in March of 1983. 'Wind Him Up' became the second single and peaking at #64 on Billboard the following month.
Saga 2011 features:
Michael Sadler - vocals
Jim Crichton - bass, keyboards
Ian Crichton - lead guitar
Jim Gilmour - keyboards, clarinet, vocals
Brian Doerner - drums

Review by Mike Suicide Photos by Jenipher Nyari
Friday the 19th, Mr. Big rolled into downtown Buffalo, at the famed Town Ballroom. I was looking forward to seeing this band, since I really liked them back in the 80's. They were dubbed a 'super group' back then, since they had some notable names in rock. Billy Sheehan (of Buffalo's own Talas) has worked with David Lee Roth, Steve Vai, UFO and many, many more. He has established himself as true bassist, one with a distinctive style, and a memorable stage performance. Paul Gilbert (of Racer X) started out as a 15 year old guitar prodigy, who attended the Guitar Institute of Technology in L.A. Pat Torpey (former drummer of The Knack) and singer Eric Martin, have also been involved with many projects, featuring prominent musicians. Mr. Big reached multi-platinum success with their second album, "Lean Into It." I gravitated to them in the late 80's and early 90's, due to their blues driven rock and power ballads, all of which had a very catchy style. They arrived at the end of the glam scene and got lumped in to that genre, but transcended glam in so many ways.
Mr. Big hit the stage and opened with "Daddy,Brother, Lover, Little Boy" to a nicely filled venue. They powered through many of their hits and also played several new songs off of their latest album. One of the highlights of the night was Billy's bass solo, which showcased his finger picking style and fret tapping. He plays the bass like a lead guitar, and it's really amazing to watch. The other highlight was when each band member swapped positions - Paul jumping behind the drums, Pat playing the bass, Eric grabbing the guitar, and Billy in front of the mic. As the night wore on, the crowd (many of which had watched Talas play in the 70's and 80's) eagerly waited to see if a Talas song would be played, since all three final members of the band (drummer Paul Varga was standing next to me throughout the night, and guitarist Dave Constantino's band opened the show) were in attendance. Talas didn't have a reunion performance, but Mr. Big gave them a taste of Talas, playing "Shy Boy" during the encore. All in all, it was a great nostalgic night and a nice homecoming gig for Buffalonian, Billy Sheehan. Mr. Big proved once again, that they are a solid blues rock band, with more than capable musicians, that know how to get the job done.

GUITAR WORLD: It seems you've gone from a being relative unknown to one of the most respected guitarists in the world. To what do you attribute your success
I think there are many people ahead of the line in front of me as far as respect, notoriety and success goes. However, I'm very grateful and very happy with where I am in my life and career. The thing I love about traveling and playing concerts is the life experiences I have every day. People are inspiring to me and they really energize me and remind me that my mission in life is to play for the people and not get sidetracked by worries or pressures. I don't have a formula for success, but the formula for failure is trying to please everybody.
What advice do you offer people who approach you after your clinics and concerts looking for help with their playing and music careers?
The most commonly asked question is, "How does my son or daughter get started doing what you're doing?" I think it's so important to have good music to play. You don't want to waste time and energy on songs that don't mean anything. You need to find songs that are strong in every way. Good melody, good structure, good feeling and memorable.more
