Timmo Tolkki: Pledge Music Double solo album at 74%

Be a part of my NEW DOUBLE SOLO ALBUM! Pledge for amazing exclusives/updates not available anywhere else!  http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/timotolkki

Change in the music industry and the new ways of releasing quality music are here to stay. After hearing about PledgeMusic, I got really excited! Finally something new and fresh where the artist can be in direct interaction with the fans without any compromises. I want to make music for the people that understand me and my vision. This is my spirit and my mission. Music is waves. Music is energy. It is Universal Language that all humans understand. And music is the reason why I exist.

I have been composing stuff well over a year without knowing what it will become or will it ever be released. The name “Classical Variations” does justice for this double album. I also added the word “Credo”. It means “to believe in something”. And I truly believe this album is the most important and interesting of my entire career.

The album is divided in 2 discs that also have a name. Disc 1 is called “LYRA” and Disc 2 “VEGA”. There will be guest musicians. I want the collective spirit. Those will be announced in the updates later as the project moves along. So far I can announce that Tuomo Lassila (the founder of Stratovarius) will play the drums. For the vocals, I will do some singing. Also Mike Vescera (Yngwie) and Michele Luppi (Vision Divine) will be singing. And I am proud to announce that MICHAEL KISKE (Unisonic,Helloween) will be joining me for this project. Still more guests coming. Stay tuned for the Pledge updates with more info.

I need YOUR help in this. I cannot do this without you. All the funds generated by the pledges will go to recording, mixing and manufacturing costs of the products.

1. PLEDGE
I’ve created a list of exclusives over there on the right →…the album download, incredibly cool Deluxe Boxes, Skype Guitar Lessons and even MY GUITAR! I’ve put a great deal of thought into these, so I hope you see something there that truly excites you! None of these items will ever be available anywhere else. Just here at PledgeMusic.

2. SHARE
Word of mouth is so so important in terms of making this work, so please share this page with your friends, family, colleagues – let’s make sure EVERYONE knows about this. And please share the project link on Facebook and Twitter:www.pledgemusic.com/projects/timotolkki

3. UPDATES
Every pledge, whatever the price, gets access to my exclusive updates…expect new music, video blogs from production and other goodies..even few songs not available on the album.

I am asking for your help so I can make this album exclusively for you. I cannot do this without your help. I pray that the love of music and your understanding of my commitment to be totally independent brings fruition to this album that will be very special.- Sincerely, Timo

Ted Nugent: Bear killer pleads guilty

Ted Nugent has agreed to plead guilty to transporting a black bear he illegally killed in southeast Alaska. Nugent made the admission in signing a plea agreement with federal prosecutors that was filed Friday in US District Court.

Calls seeking comment from Nugent, his Anchorage attorney, Wayne Anthony Ross, and assistant US Attorney Jack Schmidt were not immediately returned.

The plea agreement says Nugent illegally shot and killed the bear in May 2009 on Sukkwan Island days after wounding a bear in a bow hunt, which counted toward a state seasonal limit of one bear.

According to the agreement, first reported by the Anchorage Daily News, the six-day hunt was filmed for his Outdoor Channel television show, Spirit of the Wild. In the hunt, Nugent used a number of bear-baiting sites on US Forest Service property, according to the agreement.

The document says Nugent knowingly possessed and transported the bear in misdemeanor violation of the federal Lacey Act.

Nugent, identified in the agreement as Theodore A. Nugent, agreed to pay a $10,000 fine, according to the agreement, which says he also agreed with a two-year probation, including a special condition that he not hunt or fish in Alaska or Forest Service properties for one year. He also agreed to create a public service announcement that would be broadcast on his show every second week for one year, the document states.

Yngwie Malmsteen: Golden Gods interview

This past Wednesday April 11th, America's only Hard Rock and Heavy Metal award show took over downtown Los Angeles! The fourth annual REVOLVER GOLDEN GODS AWARD SHOW presented by Epiphone® rocked out at Club Nokia in Downtown Los Angeles. For the first time ever, the event was broadcast live in its entirety on Xbox LIVE, as well as on the Xbox and Revolver Facebook pages.

Prior to opening the awards show with his infamous rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner", guitar icon Yngwie Malmsteen graced the "black carpet" with his old school Metal vibe and we had the chance to chat with him. Some say that Yngwie comes across as a douche, we beg to differ! What a nice guy! Here is our interview with Yngwie at the 2012 Revolver Golden Gods Awards.

Eddie Van Halen: There are whole tours that Ed barely remembers.

His father was a professional musician once he got to L. A., which meant he worked as a janitor. As Ed looks through the stack of cases, he's looking for the guitar that changed his family's life when they had to dumpster-dive for scrap metal for a few extra bucks. Ed was a natural, but he was impossibly shy and he'd get so nervous when he had to face even the smallest audience that you'd see his whole body jangling, and so when he was twelve, his dad gave him a shot of vodka and a Pall Mall to ease his nerves, and started him on a lifetime of playing drunk. There are whole tours that Ed barely remembers. Hey, he had to make a living.
There was no thought given. It wasn't like, "What are your dreams?" I never dreamt of being a musician for my livelihood. I certainly never would have wanted to be in the business that I'm in, meaning the fame and the glory, the glitter, the rock star, the famous part.

John 5: Premier Guitar and Metal Injection Interviews

Your obsession with the Tele has long been documented. In the past you said you wanted to get a Tele for every year. Have you reached your goal yet?
It’s not like a huge hurry to do it. I want to do it in my lifetime, but I want to get the right Tele of each year. The ones that are in nice condition and are all original. It’s kind of the thrill of the hunt for me. I’m missing just a few though so I’m doing pretty well.

You’re talking big bucks here with the old Fenders. What’s the priciest guitar you’ve bought?
A 1950 Fender Broadcaster that was probably $150,000.

Ronnie Montrose: Li ive At The Uptown DVD announced

Ronnie Montrose (MONTROSE, GAMMA) has been playing music for over 40 years, and believe it or not, "Live At The Uptown" is the one and only live DVD recording of his career, which sadly ended on March 3 when he committed suicide after a five-year battle with prostate cancer.

Ronnie and his band created a very wonderful evening filmed at the Uptown Theater in Napa, California this past January 27, 2012. This DVD includes acoustic pieces, songs you never heard him perform before, and ones you haven't heard him do for years and years and years.

Ronnie rocked the house with a great set list that included many of his big hit songs, including "Rock the Nation", "I Got The Fire", "Make It Last", "20 Flight", "I Don't Want It", "Space Age Sacrifice", "Rock Candy", "Bad Motor Scooter" and "Good Rockin' Tonight".

"Live At The Uptown" will begin shipping on May 1 and is available as a regular DVD, DVD with limited poster and DVD with limited edition poster (no metallic). The limited edition, numbered poster is 12.5" x 19", black Speckletone paper, with three-color — "a very special and historic item!"

Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee, Neil Peart: The 2112 Daily – Rush News

I really like the options available for creating new content on line... gone are the days where you need to have a blog like Wordpress. Now time can be devoted to getting the content rather than building the blogging platform (one of the main reasons why I chose blogger as a platform, that plus it had Google backing). One of these aggregation options is Paper.Li and here is a fine example of what can be achieved. The 2112 Daily – Rush News

Fred Brum: Machina

My album Atonement is available (along with a free downloadable track at http://fredbrum.com/atonement/ - please give it a listen. :)
Official Website - http://www.fredbrum.comFacebook - http://www.facebook.com/FredTheShredBrumMachina is the second song for my new album, coming early next year, called Transcendence (the first one was Roland's Last Stand, which is now finished as well). Mix is evidently far from final, but I thought I'd share the song anyway. The inspiration for this was actually East European cartoons from the late 70's I remember watching as kid, a couple of which had this dark and machinery like texture to them.
Guitars used on the track are my Jaden Rose Spider #3 and my Blackat Leon 8 proto, and the bass that so kindly gave me the workout of a lifetime is my cheapish 7-string HK, tuned F# to C, low to high. All the guitars are recorded through the Kemper into a Presonus 22SVL interface, whereas the bass was recorded direct and then processed via plugins, the ghetto way.

I hope you guys enjoy! :)

News: Do you have too much technique?

We practice technique so we can be fluent on the guitar. Hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, grace notes—there’s a reason these techniques are called articulations. They’re what Frank Zappa called the “eyebrows” of music. They’re expressive.

When I name modes like phrygian, aeolian, and lydian, some players would accuse me of being pretentious and technical. But though those terms might sound arcane, in truth each of those scales has its own unique mood, its own character. When I say “aeolian,” I’m thinking of that scale’s brooding, dark feel. “Lydian,” meanwhile, is quite happy-sounding for the most part, but with just a touch of twisted dissonance. It sounds like a sunny day gone slightly wrong.

Find out what Guitar Muse proposes: http://www.guitar-muse.com/does-too-much-technique-make-you-sound-like-a-tool-4682
