Gary Moore is a wonderful guitar player. I love his stuff, particularly "Still got the blues", "The Loner" or "Parisienne Walkways"... sorry for any mistakes and sillyness in my play.

Fred Brum: Katana - VGS Soulmaster 7

Fred Brum - Evertune bridge / VGS Soulmaster (Katana playthrough)

My album Atonement is available (along with a free downloadable track athttp://fredbrum.com/atonement/ - please give it a listen. :)

Official Website - http://www.fredbrum.com
Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/FredTheShredBrum

This was a fun demo to do. Since I take reviewing kit quite seriously, I was interested in seeing how the bridge would react to some extreme mishaps, such as breaking multiple strings, extreme temperature variations (took it on stage on a cold day, shoved it under a rather hot spotlight, cut off up to 3 strings, taped strings together overnight, etc.) and it held its own admirably. A small demo of this stability is at the end of the video, and you can see the mechanics behind it at http://www.evertune.com

The song played here is Katana, which will be featured on my second album Transcendence. I used it because it's a fun song to play and since I intended it as a tip of the hat to Marty Friedman (I'm a huge fan ever since I was a kid), it's full of somewhat aggressive bends and some more frantic playing throughout, which puts the bridge through its paces. The guitar was never tuned after the beginning of the tracking session, and I played it this morning. The remaining strings are still in tune.

The song was recorded via my Presonus 22 VSL, fed by the Kemper Profiling using models of a DV Mark Triple6, Silverblade Hellhound, Laney Ironheart, Marshall 1987X and a Bad Cat, direct into the interface. The "posh hairband" things on my necks are Gruv Gear Fretwraps and the picks are assorted units from both SIk Pik and Hufschmid guitars.

Neal Schon: The Calling - turning heads!

Neal Schon: The Calling

1. The Calling 4:41
2. Carnival Jazz 6:24
3. Six String Waltz 3:34
4. Irish Field 1:13
5. Back Smash 6:18
6. Fifty Six (56) 5:21
7. True Emotion 3:59
8. Tumbleweeds 6:49
9. Primal Surge 3:50
10. Blue Rainbow Sky 3:37
11. Transonic Funk 4:38
12. Song of the Wind II

This twelve track CD sees a welcome return of one of the guitar greats. Neal George Joseph Schon (born February 27, 1954) is an American rock guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist best known for his work with the bands Journey and Bad English. He is the only member of Journey to have recorded on all of the band's albums. He was also a member of the rock band Santana before forming Journey.

With this album Neal Schon delivers guitar playing with a modern edge. Schon is joined by two well known keyboard masters in the shape of Igor Len and Jan Hammer. Igor is an accomplished classical, jazz and film composer is featured on acoustic piano throughout The Calling. Jan needs no real introduction being a Grammy award winner and having worked with Jeff Beck, Mahavishnu Orchestra... delivering two great Moog synthesizer solos on two of the tracks. Add to the mix... one of the worlds greatest drummer, Steve Smith.

You never know how these things are going to work out, if you'll be hearing a lumbering giant or riding on the the back of a sure fire winner! Well, I am pleased to announce folks that it is the latter! Production is great through out, and what amazes me is that the whole thing was captured in just four day at Fantasy Studios during a break from Journey's busy touring schedule. His playing is scintillating and measured, no shred fest, but rather measured atmospheric pieces and all out rockers, blended with Schon's skillful guitar touch and years of guitar know-how. It's certainly as good as, if not better than, recent Joe Satriani solo releases.

The tracks themselves are musical soundscapes for Neal's powerful lead guitar playing, deft touches of the bar, great vibrato work to shine through. Blend in some more more ethnic touches and magnificent jazz piano Igor Len on tracks like Fifty Six (56) and it becomes a musical juggernaut of awesome proportions! This is something you want on repeat, don't just sit there with your headphones on, seek out your favourite chair, set your stereo to a reasonably loud volume, certainly loud enough for your neighbours to hear how much you are enjoying the twelve taunting tracks... and, with their heads turning, wait for that firm knock on your front door... and... well tell them I told you to do it!

Great stuff, add this one to your recommend list!

Bill Berends: Very happy fund raising update

Bill Berends gives an update on the progress of his kick starter capaign

AWESOME!!! INCREDIBLE!! WE DID IT!!! WOOHOO!!! On October 16th we hit the $2,000 mark, so in just 10 days we are solidly in the funded zone! YAY!! With your help this new CD *will* be a reality now!! I LOVE YOU GUYS!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!! Really.. this is just incredible! Wow.
Sorry it took me a few days to get an update on here, I had a busy week with my furnace crapping out just as it's getting cold (I fixed it), the muffler on my car broke off (I fixed that too), a Berends Bros Band rehearsal, then a gig on Saturday. Oh, plus I've been sick the past three weeks, up and down with some kind of cold thing which has been slowing me down, so it's been a crazy week. Anyway, I wanted to get on here as soon as I could and thank each and every one of you who has kicked in. All you guys and girls are awesome! Thank YOU!!!
haha.. now I can get some sleep!! You know, I had NO idea going into this how it would pan out, so this just knocks me out. I had been having a two week long anxiety attack, basically. Holding my breath. Now I can relax a little and spend a few days catching up on some real life stuff that's demanding my attention.
Kickstarter can't be changed once it's in play and will continue thru Nov. 5th, so I hope more people will continue to pledge and pre-order the CD so they can get the music as soon as possible. My goal, after all, is to move as many CD's as I can to spread the music wide and far and I ask everyone who may be interested to pre-order here if you can. Kickstarter campaigns that go over their goal get more attention and it is great PR for the album!!!
The first $2,000 covers basic CD mfg, but as I said in the longer video, the stretch goal is to try and go far as possible and all the money that comes in will be plowed right back into album promotions, updating production tools, and speeding along more music. There is so much more music I'd like to see get finished and released: New Mastermind, more solo stuff... even some electronic music I've been working on. If we can reach $3,000 or more I will upgrade reward packages above the $50 level somehow... not sure how yet, but I will toss in some perk.
Next week I'll post a little follow up video with some more music for you to hear and again, my most sincere gratitude to all of you for helping me bring this album to life!! Thank you for your faith in the music, in me... YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
Bb
ps: I made a Facebook page so feel free to stop by there and say hello....

Joe Bonamassa: the London shows 2013

Joe Bonamassa, the world’s premiere guitarist, will perform four exclusive London concerts during March 2013.  Each concert will be specially filmed for DVD and will feature never-before performed live tracks. The four London concerts will chronicle Joe’s atmospheric rise from the intimate club atmosphere of The Borderline, to the prestigious Royal Albert Hall. The live in-concert DVDs will be released during fall 2013.

Hailed as The Guitar Event of the Year, Bonamassa will pay homage to the historic London venues he’s played by going back to his ten studio albums to perform songs for the very first time.  The four London 2013 concerts will individually showcase a unique band configuration that will highlight diverse elements of Joe’s style. Each performance will be distinctive with different set lists. Collectively, there will be upwards of eighty new and old songs performed over the four nights that even the most die-hard Bonamassa fan will experience for the first time.  The London run will start at the intimate 200-capacity London Borderline on Tuesday March 26.  Bonamassa will then play the 02 Shepherds Bush Empire and HMV Hammersmith Apollo on Wednesday March 27 and Thursday March 28 respectively, before finishing the week at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday March 30.

The Royal Albert Hall and Shepherds Bush concerts are currently sold out. Tickets are still available for the Hammersmith Apollo, as well as VIP tickets for the exclusive Borderline concert that also includes the best seats in the house for the remaining three concerts including the Royal Albert Hall, Shepherds Bush and the Hammersmith Apollo. For further information about the VIP tickets, visit www.thegigcartel.com/joevip/.
“London is like my second home,” says Bonamassa. “I want to give the fans attending the London concerts a real treat – a thank you for their unwavering support.  Over the years I’ve received requests for tracks we’ve never performed live. Now, it feels right that we delve into the back catalogue and dedicate London fans with unique versions of tracks they’ve never experienced live.”
