Bryan Baker: An artist strives for innovation and provocation?

Bryan Baker

Should we, as creators, artists and those pursuant of innovation, look around ourselves and find an artistic climate lacking development, growth, and genuine provocation, worthy of nothing but ambivalence and nihilism, then we have no one to blame but ourselves.

Strive to take your place in the long line of artists who have gone before, relentlessly pushing development, regardless of resistance, with a dogged belief in their individual ability to place a unique stamp on the grander and overarching growth of art as a whole, collectively achieving vast and seismic movements of massive creative importance in the process.

Do not strive to take your place in the long line of artists overweening and lobotomized by a desire for conformity, acceptance, and the whorish obsession with media, willing at any turn to dilute their artistic vision for the possibility of even the most superficial and seemingly antiseptic exposure and the, as of now, so cliched and mythical concept of fame.

Take your place.
An artist strives for innovation and provocation.
An entertainer distracts with the commonplace and familiar.
Which are you?
