Daisuke Kunita trio "Fragments"

Guitarist Daisuke KUNITA was born in Sapporo, Japan, in 1980. He took his first classical piano lesson at age of eight, then started to play guitar when he was seventeen. In 1999, he moved to the United States of America to enter the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Since graduating, he had been playing around the Boston area and working at Berklee as a staff. Back in Japan in the year 2005, he decided to record his first album, today issued as a joint-venture between the Musea and Poseidon labels. "Fuzzy Logic" (2007) surely wouldn't have been badly received, if it was played by such famous guitar-heroes as Joe SATRIANI ou Steve VAI, without even mentioning Ritchie BLACKMORE or Jimmy PAGE. These eight instrumental tracks rock, with sharp riffs and incredible virtuosity shining through. Let's notice the powerful Jimi HENDRIX-like opening to know what we're talking about. That said, Daisuke KUNITA also seems to have grown up with jazz-rock fusion: listen to these Allan HOLDSWORTH-like sequences and this impeckable technique, making this CD a captivating and varied piece of work. Structured around a power-trio with six-strings at the forefront, the instrumentation may also include piano or keyboards notes, without forgetting alto saxophone on "Acid Approach". Recommended !
