Richie Allan: answering the question on ask.fm

How do you approach altered harmony ? Do you rely more on your ear when playing non-diatonically over dissonant chord progressions, or do you follow specific rules which work for you ? I've noticed that you switch between 'inside' and 'outside' playing in a very seamless and melodic way. Beautiful.
Its a bit of my ear ....... majority is feel and mind, everything I do is in my head and my ear comes into play when translating the physical side of playing and what is already composed in me ....... I just seem to stay in a realm where anything goes, it feels amazing.
if you had to choose a pedal board other than the axe fx, what would it be?
I'd use some brand of head and cab..... bad horsie wah, ts 808 keeley, digitech whammy, amp fx loop.... into either an eventide eclipse or a tc electronics g system ....... basic as.
How long have you played an ibanez for? You never got on that Strat buzz or someting?
I've been playing Ibanez for 20+ years ...... never was on that strat buzz, I like the strat tone especially for detuned distorted rhythm stuff.

What pedals would be for you essential in a pedalboard?
I keep it simple an over drive or some kind of boost... but this thing isnt a problem with the Axe FX II.

I recently discovered Heavy metal ninjas through guitar messenger and of course i was amazed by your playing! I must say you are definitely among the best metal players today! So care to explain your biggest infuences on guitar and also give some info on your guitars and pickup combinatons you use?
Thanks..... My biggest influences would be Gary Moore, Jason Becker, Steve Vai and Fredrik Thordandal.... I'm strickly Ibanez and DiMarzio, guitars used the most RGD2127Z with DiMarzio (neck) Liquifire, (bridge) Blaze Custom and my RG8 (modded HSH config) all DiMarzio Ionizers.
