Marco Iacobini: The Sky There'll Always Be new CD - features an all star line up!

Marco Iacobini: The Sky They'll always be
ACCLAIMED ITALIAN GUITARIST MARCO IACOBINI DEBUTS
The Sky There'll Always Be ON APRIL 23RD
Third Release Features All Star Line Up Including Tony Levin, Dave Weckl, Billy Sheehan, Keith Carlock, Thomas Lang and Bill Bergman Among Others

(4/22/2012 – Los Angeles, CA) Acclaimed Italian guitarist Marco Iacobini debuts his latest release The Sky They’ll Always Be (Muso Entertainment) on April 23rd. The third release from the prolific Italian guitarist features an all-star line up of legendary performers including bassists Tony Levin(Peter Gabriel/King Crimson), Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big/Steve Vai) and Stu Hamm (Joe Satriani); as well as drummers Dave Weckl (Paul Simon/Madonna), Keith Carlock (Steely Dan/James Taylor) and Thomas Lang (Asia/stOrk) as well as saxophonists Bill Bergman (Stevie Wonder/Bonnie Raitt) and Carl Verheyen (Supertramp) as well as Grammy-nominated keyboardist Philippe Saisse (Chick Corea) among others to capture Iacobini's unmistakable blend of jazz/funk tinged instrumental rock and showcase his technically masterful guitar playing.
Recorded over the course of three years at Forward Studios in his hometown of Rome and in New York City at Avatar Studios, The Sky There’ll Always Be captures listeners’ ears and minds in equal measure. Tracks like “The Great Rush” showcase Iacobini’s impossibly fast salvos of notes and dramatic whammy bar heroics while still retaining an immense understanding of music. Ferocious metal drummer Mike Terrana (Yngwie Malmsteen/Steve Lukather) guests on the track along with bassist Stu Hamm to create the rock solid sonic counterbalance to Iacobini’s aggressive soloing.
The title track, “The Sky They’ll Always Be” pairs soaring melody with intricate guitar work that alternates between languid, soaring riffs and intricate, powerful shredding. Huge and dynamic, the song creates its own gravity and pulls the listener in while Billy Sheehan’s flawless, bass line flows through the song like delicious, liquid sound and drummer Thomas Lang’s finesse and surprisingly delicate playing adds a splashy vibrancy.
Written by Stu Hamm, "18F" is homage to Iacobini’s favorite airplane seat on the flight from the United States to Europe. Iacobini channels John Frusciante on this funky, fusion/rock track which also offers up a slap bass intro courtesy of Hamm and legendary drummer Dave Weckl’s deep-pocket playing is nothing short of perfection.
Iacobini wrote, "When the Angels Come Down" when his grandmother passed away. “In my life, only one person has given to me the certainty to be loved always without limitations. This person is my granny,” says Iacobini. “For this song I have asked the help of my friend Stefano Sastro on keys, Tomy Levin on stick and Mike Terrana on drums.” Plush and textured, the song is fitting tribute to love without limits.
Iacobini is no stranger to collaborating with some of the music industry’s top artists. In 2009 he worked on the release Spirito Libero” from Italian vocalist “Giorgia” which also featured Herbie Hancock, Ronan Keating and Michael Baker among others. In addition, he opened for Tony Levin and Dave Kilmister.

Marco Iacobini is endorsed by Carvin guitars and uses Visual Sound products. For additional information, please visit www.marcoiacobini.com

2. Dunia Duara 5:33
3. Little Boy and Fat Man 5:44
4. Curse You Val Kilmer 4:38
5. 3 Crows 3:30
6. Andius Maximus 4:18
7. Pathway 7:35
8. Last Call 5:08

The birth of this project relates directly to the release of a video with Chris Buck, Virgil Donati and Brett Garsed entitled "3 Crows" Chris, Virgil and Brett were originally the core of the project. Chris, Brett and Virgil had worked together previously on the "Progasaurus" project. As time went by, a host of other stellar musicians became involved. Chris had recorded with Andy Kodiwein and Marco Minnemann on another project so Andy and Chris penned the song "Curse You Val KIlmer". Andy eventually composed another tune with Marco on drums and Chris titled the song "Andius Maximus". After Chris performed a group of songs written and produced by jazz guitarist/sound design artist Chris Taylor, they collaborated on a number of songs and Taylor also penned a couple of incredible compositions for 3 Crows titled "Dunia Duara" and a bass feature "Last Call". Taylor played guitar and keys on a number of songs and also contributed sound design to the project. At Taylor's suggestion, Chris Buck contacted keyboard virtuoso George Whitty to mix the project and George ended up mixing, mastering and adding flat out death defying solos. Along the way Chris Buck and Otmaro Ruiz connected and Otmaro recorded a blistering rhodes solo for "Little Boy and Fat Man". This project is different in that it blends the styles of rock, jazz, fusion and prog in a new and unique way. This music is for people who can dig deeply and have an appreciation for taste, virtuosity and athleticism in music.

Tom Hess: A Powerful And Unique Approach To Writing Guitar Solo Phrases

A Powerful And Unique Approach To Writing Guitar Solo Phrases
By Tom Hess
Many guitar players think that having great technical playing skills is crucial to writing incredible guitar solos. In reality, there exist tons of great guitarists who play truly inspiring guitar phrases without playing in a very ‘technical’ manner… and you can do this to when you follow the steps in this article.
To create killer guitar solo ideas that simply ‘can’t be ignored’ by your listeners, you will need to do two things: 1. Establish a familiar pattern to create a ‘musical expectation’ AND 2. Go against this expectation to surprise your listener. Fact is, this is ‘not’ hard and there are countless ways to accomplish this in your lead guitar phrasing. For the rest of this article, I will show you an effective step by step approach to creating attention-grabbing guitar solos.

Before I continue, it is ESSENTIAL for you watch the video below to see the demonstration of this guitar soloing method. When I say it is ESSENTIAL, I mean it - If you do not do this first, you will not get the maximum benefit from the information in the rest of this article. Once you have watched the full video, come back and I will take you through the steps to writing your own killer guitar solo phrases.

Okay, assuming you have already watched the video above, you are ready to continue reading this article. Follow these steps to write guitar solos with phrasing that ‘demands’ the attention of your listeners:

Step Number One: Begin by writing a guitar phrase in common time (4/4) that uses one of the following choices: a group of eighth notes or a group of  sixteenth notes. The phrase should be a repeating pattern that can be easily played over and over (starting over every 8 or 16 notes), so it’s important to use the same note values here. After making your selection, play the phrase you created over a backing track. After making your selection, play the phrase you created over a backing track. Play your melody over this 4/4 track with drums now.

HINT: By using pedal point phrasing (as demonstrated in the video above) you will make the following steps easier to do. Additionally, you can use a similar idea to the one seen below, where every note is picked two times:

(I encourage you to create your own ideas as well)

Step Number Two: Play the short guitar phrase you created over the 4/4 track with drums and repeat it several times in a row. This step is important because:
A. By repeating your guitar phrase over and over, you are solidifying the expectation for your listeners that: the pattern itself and the 4/4 beat will continue (as you saw in the video).
B. It helps make the next step even more surprising and powerful.

Step Number Three: It’s time to really surprise the listener by doing something totally unexpected. You are going to create the feel of ‘three against four’ with your guitar phrase (as you heard in the video). A very easy way to accomplish this feel is to shorten the phrase you came up with so that it can fit into a meter that uses three beats per measure while you keep playing over the backing track that uses FOUR beats per measure. Compare the image below to the first one from above to see how you can change your guitar phrase to give it the feel of three against four:

Pay close attention to the fact that the rhythm of the notes remains unchanged (as you noticed in the video). By following this example, the music will play in 4/4 while your shorter guitar phrase will play against it – beginning again on a different pulse than the music itself. This creates a sense of strong musical tension that will be unavoidable to anyone who listens to your guitar solo. This will absolutely DEMAND their attention!

Step Number Four. At some point, the new guitar phrase will eventually line up with the beat of the backing track (remember the value of each note remained the same). Once this happens, you will need to decide on what to do next. You can choose between any of the following actions:
A. Keep playing the altered guitar phrase in order to maintain the feel of three against four.
B. Revert back to your original phrase and play in perfect time with the backing track.
C. Start over by creating a new guitar solo phrase.

Notice: Although playing guitar in this manner will certainly create unexpected results for your listeners (in a good way), if you play the same idea over many times it will create new expectations for them. In other words, you must ‘balance’ the process of introducing new ideas and ‘developing’ them in order to keep your playing interesting for your audience. The longer you repeat an idea, the less ‘novel’ it feels to the listener (even if it is a really cool idea).

Additionally, do not limit yourself to using this three against four approach only in lead guitar playing scenarios. All of the steps in this article can be followed to create cool riffs for rhythm guitar as well. There are countless ways to creatively integrate this idea into your music and many more basic examples than I can get into in a single article.

Now that you have learned the unique guitar phrasing approach discussed in this article, apply it into your guitar solos to unlock endless musical possibilities for your guitar playing!

Ethan Brosh,Yngwie Malmsteen: Ethan provides more details on the upcoming tour with guitar Maestro Yngwie Malmsteen

SIX STRING-VIRTUOSO ETHAN BROSH TO TOUR WITH THE LEGENDARY YNGWIE MALMSTEEN

If it's six-string pyrotechnics that you crave, then you simply have to attend one of the upcoming shows that will feature one of metal's most talented up-and-coming guitarists, Ethan Brosh, and one of the genre's most renowned and respected figures, Yngwie Malmsteen. The tour will take in 25 cities in the US and Canada, and is sure to introduce Brosh to a whole new legion of fans.

And there is good reason why Brosh is hitting the road - he has an all-new album coming out later this year, 'Live the Dream.' His second all-instrumental album overall, the album was mixed by Max Norman (Ozzy, Megadeth), and features the talents of world class bassist Dave Ellefson, as well as the mastering of Bob Ludwig (Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden), and an album cover painting by Joe Petagno (Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd).

Thus far, Brosh has constructed an extremely impressive resume, as his last album, 2009's 'Out of Oblivion' featured the likes of Mike Mangini (Dream Theater, Extreme, Steve Vai), as well as guest appearances by George Lynch (Dokken), Greg Howe (Michael Jackson), and even artwork by Derek Riggs (Iron Maiden), while production duties were handled by Chris Tsangarides (Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne).

Brosh is also the guitarist of the group Angels of Babylon (which includes Ellefson and drummer Rhino), and has toured with Eddie Money, Joey Molland (Badfinger), Kelly Keeling (Alice Cooper, Malmsteen, Trans Siberian Orchestra), Terry Illous (XYZ) and Pat Travers, and has opened for Lynch Mob, Michael Schenker, Enuff Z'nuff, Danger Danger, and many more.

Ethan will also feature the other band he's a part of, Burning Heat on their first national tour on the second half of the Yngwie tour.
Burning Heat is a melodic Rock N Roll band sure to raise interest in music lovers who miss well written songs with big choruses and great playing.

It's not often that two incredibly talented heavy metal guitarists unite and tour together.
This spring, metalheads will get the opportunity to enjoy an evening of amazing guitar playing, when Ethan Brosh and Yngwie Malmsteen hit the road together.

News: Mach22 looking for lead and rhythm for touring

Philadelphia (USA) rock band, MACH22, who was handpicked by legendary guitarist SLASH as Grand Prize Winner of Guitar Center On-Stage with SLASH Contest, is seeking a lead/rhythm guitarist to join them in playing locally as well as gear up for regional and national tours.

While MACH22 has been hailed as “Zeppelin meets Kravitz,” it’s been said that this label is too narrow a vision. “Everything from Aerosmith and Guns N’ Roses,” says Metalholic Magazine, “vibes right alongside Bootsy Collins and Miles Davis, even the Stones. It’s not just in the sound, but in the attitude, presence, and authenticity.”

MACH22 is looking for guitarists with a similar melodic blues influence and draw inspiration from the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Joe Perry, Angus Young, SLASH, and Buddy Guy.

Candidates must be committed to MACH22's rehearsal and show schedule, and be available on short notice.

Please visit http://www.mach22music.com/2013/04/10/pro-rock-guitar-player-auditions-for-mach22/ or facebook.com/MACH22 for how to apply.
