Rob Chappers: The Tone Ranger review of the Chapman CAP10 Guitar

Check out this Lone Ranger inspired video review of the Chapman CAP10.
In this video we use a fancy dress cowboy & indians outfit, a rubber horse mask, and a home made arrow... Oh yeah, and we also used a Chapman CAP10 Guitar, a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Amp, and an Option 5 Destination Drive II Pedal (& my pick of destiny, the Stone Works Thin Pick)

If you want to find out more about the guitar then you just need to click here - http://www.andertons.co.uk/solid-body...

In fact everything we use in the video (except the outfits) are available to buy from Andertons - just take a short horse ride over to www.andertons.co.uk

Just be careful of them pesky Indjuns!!

Vinai Trinateepakdee: Emotive Rock - Summer Haze

Vinai T returns to JTC with a blindingly good new series, deep rooted with emotion! These 3 tracks are Vinai showing exactly what he does best...creating heart warming, inspirational melodic solos that hit all of the right notes.

One of Vinai's heroes is Neal Schon, so we gave Dave Lockwood the brief to create 3 backing tracks in this style for Vinai to play over....and what a dream combination it has turned out to be. The backings are sublime to jam over, with a slower ballad, medium paced rock and a funk track in the mix. And Vinai rose to the challenge and blitzed it with these incredible solos.

We have set this package to intermediate as the large % of the solos fall into this category. Summer Haze and some sections of The Time Is Now and Cry From The Heart have some tougher licks to master, but as they say 'practise makes perfect'...and we all love a challenge!

The package comes with trusty JTC tab and notation, the solo, backing and extended jam tracks and videos for you to analyse exactly how to play these solos.

Check out the previews below and prepare to get seriously emotive!

WHAT YOU GET

3 solo tracks
3 backing tracks
3 extended jam tracks
3 video performances
Tab and notation in PDF and Powertab

Ryan Carraher,Allan Holdsworth: Full and detailed review of Carvin HH1 Allan Holdsworth Signature Headless Guitar

*Read for more information*
Hey all,
I received this guitar yesterday and it is absolutely amazing. To be honest I was hesitant to purchase one of these for a while because I couldn't locate one to test it out and there are only a hand full of YouTube videos of them.
That being said this guitar is a bargain. It is very comfortable and pleasing to play, it feels great and it has a very full, resonant sound (in my opinion). I am not affiliated with Carvin (although my door is always open.........) so this is my honest unbiased opinion.

The video:
0:00-1:42 The guitar

1:43-2:22 Me playing a rubato version of one of my tunes
2:24-3:40 Clean improvisation (experimenting with Clusters/Quartal themes
3:40-7:51 Improv with distortion in style of Holdsworth in (and around) the key of Ab. This was more or less a practice session of me working on developing some concepts/licks hence some of it can be repetitive.

Here are the specs:
-Set neck
-25.5" scale
-all mahogany body (no top piece) chambered
-Ebony fingerboard with a 20" radius
-Black hardware
-white dot inlays on fret board and side
-24 Jumbo frets
-H22 humbucker
-it weighs 5-6 pounds
-Strung with Elixir nanoweb 10's (Elixir my door is always open for you as well *cough cough*)
-Visit http://www.carvinguitars.com/catalog/guitars/hh1 for more info

Gear in my rack (from top to bottom):
-Furman power conditioner
-Fractal Audio Axe-FX Ultra (with older firmware)
-Carvin TS100 Power amp
-Egnater cab (Have no clue what the model is or what speakers are in it. It's not mine)
-Using a Shure SM57 to mic the cab which is going into Logic.

Tymon Kruidenier: Exivious - Season of Mist is proud to welcome instrumental progressive band to their roster!

Season of Mist is proud to welcome instrumental progressive band EXIVIOUS to the roster! The Dutch quartet consists of Tymon Kruidenier (ex-CYNIC) and Michel Nienhuis (DODECAHEDRON) on guitars, Robin Zielhorst (ex-CYNIC) on fretless bass and Yuma van Eekelen (ex-PESTILENCE, THE NEW DOMINION) on drums. EXIVIOUS’ forthcoming second album is entitled ‘Liminal’ and has been scheduled for a November 8th release (November 12th in North America).

“We're very pleased to announce that EXIVIOUS has found a home with Season of Mist”, the band comments. “After being independent since the beginning of the band, it's an exciting step for us to get signed. As such, we're proud and honored to be taken in by one of the most prestigious metal labels out there. Season of Mist is driven foremost by their passion for good music and they have an impressive roster of bands. We're very optimistic about a long and successful collaboration”.

The sound of EXIVIOUS is hard to define; it operates in a space where metal meets fusion meets post-rock and still is none of the above. The band blends a wide variety of musical genres into a coherent, unified sound that’s driven by the incredible chemistry shared by the four musicians. You can get an idea of what ‘Liminal’ will sound like by listening to “Entrust”, the opening track of the album.

Holy Fire

Holy Fire is my latest single, due to be released later this year on iTunes. It is a return to the instrumental guitar genre for me, where I found my roots with Red Dream and Bare Bones. Recorded and produced by Rabea Massaad.
Train Your Ears

Whether you are a musician, producer, engineer or absolute beginner you will find this an invaluable method that will give you a musical palate with which to compose melodies, choose harmonies, invent bass lines and more…

Intervalic recognition or intervallic (USA)… intervalics, harmonic ear training, ear aerobics and learning music by ear, are all expressions which refer to the process of identifying the structure of a piece of music by careful listening.
Bending and Vibrato

Nothing in nature stands still, and that includes The Monkey Lord. Rob Chappers returns with a nearly 20 minute long lesson on string bending and vibrato. Learn how to hit target notes, bend with ease, and add vibrato from micro-tonal to two-tone ranges.
Blues Improvisation

This 15-minute lesson is an in-depth study of blues improvisation. It isn’t a video of licks and scales, but more a lesson on how to practice playing blues lead, how to apply it to different keys, and how to break away from improvising in the first position of the minor pentatonic scale.
Circle of Doom

The insanely awesome lick known as the Circle of Doom can now be a part of your lick vocabulary.
Guitar Chords for Beginners

This lesson covers playing the musical alphabet of chords in both major and minor

(A major, B major, C major, D major, E major, F major, G major, A minor, B minor, C minor, D minor, E minor, F minor, G minor)
How to Practice Guitar Effectively

This lesson covers all of the essential tools to enable you to maximising your ability to achieve your goals.

Whilst this lesson is primarily aimed at beginners, it is also a good reminder for more experienced players who may have got stuck in their ways.
How to Write Licks

This lesson is packed full of information, providing you with all of the knowledge you should require to write your own music and licks. Including a look at arpeggios, lead and riff writing.
How to Write Riffs

Rob’s process of writing a riff from beginning to end – Rob writes a metal riff in the video and explains the steps he is taking as he takes them.
Metal Power Chords

The Monkey Lord is back and takes you on an educational tour of Metal Power Chords. This lesson is packed with 10 minutes of chords, tips, and tricks and will have you pounding out riffs so brutal they will put hair on your grandmother’s chest.
Modal Rock Licks 1 & 2

Lick lessons focusing on blues rock but with dorian modal influence.
Scale Study – Phrygian Dominant

The Phrygian Dominant scale has an exotic yet easily applicable tone that will give you tons of new ideas for your lead playing, especially if you are a rock/metal fan. This lesson takes you through both a two octave and three octave shape suitable for bluesy licks and scorching shred!
Take Me (Majesty) Hybrid Picking

This lesson includes the renowned hybrid picked main riff for “Majesty” (previously called “Take Me”), as well as hybrid picking tips and some bonus killer licks.
The Ultimate Guide to the Whammy Bar

The Ultimate Guide to the Whammy Bar features a whole range of techniques that teach you how to make your guitar scream.
