Jack Mazzenga,Ned Evett,Neil Haverstick: fretless master releases new CD Had to Say

15 genre bending tracks by fretless guitarist & composer Jack Mazzenga featuring special guests fretless guitar masters Ned Evett and Neil Haverstick on three tracks with Mitch Goldman (Trumpet) and Joe Brown (Sax & Flute) on four

Jack Mazzenga: Had to Say

Chicago born fretless guitarist Jack Mazzenga has spent the majority of his life as a sideman. It was time to produce his own music which employs rock, funk, jazz, country and progressive elements. Enter Jim Petti (bass) and Michael Thompson (drums) in the engine room. Jack called more friends, master fretless guitarists Ned Evett and Neil Haverstick who contributed to three tracks.
The addition of Mitch Goldman on trumpet and Joe Brown on sax/flute for four tracks rounded out the venture which is a multifaceted, cinematic ride not to be missed.
"For me, music is emotion, expression, interpretation and influences. My version is incomplete without these elements."
- Jack Mazzenga
Track Listing:
1) Hydro: It all starts with water.
2) Gigbag & Hubcap: The musical tale of the on the road hijinks of two imaginary honkytonkers.

3) Helios: Surf’s up.
4) Cereal Killer:
Solos: Jack, Neil, Ned, Mitch & Joe

6) Lefthanded Compliment: The title speaks for itself. That’s really nice. Does it come in your size?
7) New Tax Blues: Is it really a blues? Probably not, but it was in time for the deadline...
8) Local Color: Just soaking up the vibe...
9) Space-Time Blues: Everyone has their own way of saying it.
Solos: Mitch, Jack, Ned (2:30-3:40), Mitch, Jack, Neil (4:50-6:02) & Joe
10) 90: Sometimes the name is a number.
11) Mi Perro Esta Muerto: Tell me, what could be sadder?
12) East Of the Country: A Indian flavored country idea. Eastern Southern? Country Eastern?
13) Theme From That Movie: Can’t speak for you, but I certainly have an ongoing flick in MY head.
14) Boneless Chicken: Couldn’t think of a better name for this version of country. Besides, it’s good for you.
15) Riff Rock: What’s a riff without the rock?

In this online class, free to watch live, Levi will demonstrate the real-world production techniques he uses every day at Audiohammer Studios - on albums for bands like The Black Dahlia Murder, August Burns Red, Chelsea Grin, and Whitechapel. The event will cover everything from micing drums, to using Toontrack Superior Drummer to editing and mixing. There will also be special guest appearances and more. Born in Atlanta, Ga. into a musical family, Levi was already playing violin and piano by the age of three, and composed his first symphonic work when he was just 17. In 1999 he attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass., before leaving to return to Atlanta in 2001 where he founded his own recording studio.

In 2010, Levi moved to Orlando, Fla. where he joined forces with Jason Suecof (Trivium, Chimaira) and Mark Lewis (Deicide, DevilDriver) at Audiohammer Studios. There he helped to both expand and enrich their facilities by adding a magnificent drum room, two new control rooms and sleeping quarters for the bands.

Tom Lippincott: The Blues: A Modern Jazz Guitar Approach

This advanced jazz lesson is currently on sale at Mikes Master Classses:

The twelve-bar blues progression has been a mainstay of the repertoire of every jazz musician since the birth of jazz in the early twentieth century. Over the years, as jazz evolved and sub-styles emerged, the blues form proved itself to be both quintessential and highly adaptable to the varied developments in jazz. In the early twenty-first century, a new generation of jazz musicians has reinvigorated the genre, but the blues continues to be an essential part of the modern style. If you're interested in learning more about how to incorporate modern elements while still maintaining a thread of the tradition when you play over the blues progression, then this class is for you.

In this class, the blues form will be explored in detail with the goal of applying modern jazz melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic vocabulary to the progression. First will be a brief survey of the structure and history of the form along with exercises for gaining mastery over the basic harmonies. Then, common mainstream approaches for melodic and harmonic variations on the progression will be outlined. Finally, modern approaches to melody, harmony, and rhythm will be applied to the blues form.

The Blues: A Modern Jazz Guitar Approach - Part I covers:

• Basic jazz blues progressions defined and analyzed, including harmonic function and chord/scale chart
• Arpeggio and scale studies for Bb and F blues with emphasis on fingerboard mastery and voice leading
• Discussion of approach notes and target notes and the "bebop scale" with examples
• Discussion of mixing blues vocabulary with outlining chord changes in improvisations
• Tri-tone substitution
• Melodic minor mode substitution
• Diminished scale use
• Basic polyrhythm applications for melodic and harmonic improvising; groupings of three
• Modal approach to the blues, including polytonal side-slipping
• Applying 3-part-4ths to the blues
• Running time: 92 minutes
• 14 pages of written examples (including chord diagrams, standard notation and TAB), exercises, and example solos with close-up views of the performances
• Each example performance is titled for easy navigation

• MP3 backing tracks for all written examples and solos

Leslie West: Still Climbing - track by track

First part of Leslie West's track description for "Still Climbing".

The new studio album "Still Climbing" will be released Oct 28 in EU and Oct 29 in US/Rest of World on Provogue Records and is available for pre-order at:

Balls, guts, heart — more words that are part of West's legend and describe the roaring crescendos and deep emotional roots of Still Climbing — and West himself. "You know, when it comes to talent, we don't all move at the same rate of speed," West muses. "Some people start at the top of their game and after 10 or 20 years you wonder what the hell happened to them. I like to joke that the older I get the better I used to be, but after giving up drugs and smoking, my voice can hit notes that I never could reach before. I'm thankful for that."
