Daniele Gottardo: 20 Licks To Expand Your Jazz Blues

20 Licks To Expand Your Jazz Blues

Taking inspiration from the Jazz and Bebop greats, Daniele has created 20 musically enriching, and technically challenging licks that will expand your Jazz/Blues vocabulary.

These licks use a lot of the melodic techniques that the great Jazz and Bebop greats have mastered, and applies them to a Jazz/Blues context giving a very modern and sophisticated sound to your playing. By learning these licks you will be using melodic devices such as modal interchange, tritone substitutions, tension/release, ii-V cadences, chromatic passing tones, enclosure, anticipation and other classic Bebop and Jazz improvising techniques. From a technical perspective you will make use of legato techniques, economy picking, hybrid picking, fast sweep picking passages and alternate picked phrases.

All the best improvisers know how to take inspiration from a variety of genres and players and incorporate it into their own phrases and licks. This means that even if Jazz/Blues and Bebop playing isn’t your thing, you can still learn something new from the enriched and sophisticated lines present in this package to augment and develop your playing in other styles.

Daniele says ‘With these licks I want to show you typical bebop ideas I derived inspiration from the lines of the masters such as Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Hank Jones and the traditional jazz school. I think becoming familiar with this kind of language is beneficial to the modern guitar players to develop a deeper musical understanding.’

You can analyse and master each lick by learning the slow versions of the licks, while studying the notation and bonus notes, working your way up to the full fast versions and the full jamtrack included.

As ever, we have accurately transcribed every note and included the TAB/notation in the download, full backing tracks, audio solos and track notes.
