Brian Maillard: 20 Shuffle Building Licks
20 Shuffle Building Licks
Exceptional guitarist, Brian Maillard returns with a fantastic set of creative rock licks designed to up your shuffle-game and bring a new lease of rhythmic vitality to your rock solos!
Rhythmic control is one of the most important aspects of music, and being able to play to (or with) a shuffle groove is an integral part of being a well rounded musician.
Adrian Clark (the brain that brings you our wonderful transcriptions, and text notes) describes the shuffle in this pack: 'The groove in 'Feeling of Wellbeing' is a 16th note shuffle, so the swing feel is applied on 16th notes. That means instead of splitting each beat into 4 equal notes, we have long-short-long-short. That means you'll also see a lot of sextuplets - each half-beat is divided into triplets, giving six notes per beat.'
Brian's licks are designed to simultaneously have you practising how to play over a shuffle groove and at the same time integrate the ideas into a creative environment such as an awesome lick or solo. We often tend to practise ideas in an isolated and unmusical setting which then breeds unmusical and incomplete ideas when we try to apply them. These licks circumvent that issue by integrating them into usable ideas immediately!
Technique-wise these licks will have you practising string skipping, 3 note-per-string legato runs, pedal notes, creative slides, wide interval licks, bending, open strings, vibrato and much more! On the theory side we've got Mixolydian, Major and Minor Pentatonic, Aeolian and Chromatic scales, as well as phrase building and melodic variation, tension and release, following chord changes and a whole host of other creative melodic and rhythmic concepts!
Note that this is different from some of our previous packs that include play throughs, in that not ALL of the licks stitch together into the full song. In this package Brian has also taken half of the licks from this release and shown you how you can use them in the full context of a solo by including some of them in the full play through of his song 'Feeling of Wellbeing'.
As ever, we have included everything you need to practise and perfect the material in this package. There are video and audio tracks for you to watch/listen and study, accurately transcribed TAB/notation for you to analyse and master, and backing tracks for everything! We've even included some text notes to help you really get these parts down!
