In this series finale, the master himself Guthrie Govan shows you how to conquer any fears you may have of odd time signature soloing, with 20 beautifully crafted licks that will give you everything you need to dominate 11/8!
Featuring plenty of technical and theoretical techniques designed to get you playing authentically all whilst feeling at home in the odd time signature. You'll be using Dorian, Minor Pentatonic, Chromatic and Melodic Minor scales (amongst others), superimposing arpeggios with substitutions, using slides, a wide range of bends, plenty of legato, plus more! There's plenty of bluesy ideas and even a few country-inspired nuggets to keep you on your toes!
Guthrie says 'Please don't be alarmed, this isn't bewildering prog, if anything the feel of this backing track will mostly be familiar, it just sounds like every now and then a little beat has been chopped off at the end. The main mission when coming up with both the track and the accompanying licks was just to demonstrate that playing over an odd time signature doesn't need to be a terrifying and challenging thing.
Hopefully you can unleash a bit more of a bluesy, primal, raw side of your playing over this. You don't have to be 'Fusion Guy' playing over this backing track, we tried to come up with something that was relatively funky. It is our sincere hope that by working through these licks you will come to conquer your fear of 11/8!'
