John Petrucci: liquid trio live

News:
12-02-2009:
As Dream Theater prepare their next studio release, jtsejam records release a new CD, a live show by Liquid Trio Experiment. This is the infamous "jamarathon" which took place at LTE's June 25th 2008 show in Chicago when Jordan Rudess' keyboard broke down. Mike Portnoy, John Petrucci and Tony Levin proceeded to play and improvise almost one hour of insane musical madness to a stunned audience.

Wes Borland: takes the bizkit

News:
12-02-2009:
Hell just froze over:
LIMP BIZKIT — Fred Durst, Wes Borland, Sam Rivers, John Otto, and DJ Lethal — is back from an eight-year hiatus. Durst and Borland said in a joint statement, "We decided we were more disgusted and bored with the state of heavy popular music than we were with each other. Regardless of where our separate paths have taken us, we recognize there is a powerful and unique energy with this particular group of people we have not found anywhere else. This is why LIMP BIZKIT is back."

The guys will kick off a world tour in the spring on the overseas festival circuit, with headline shows sprinkled in throughout Europe. Select dates include (in late May) Russia, Ukraine, and the Baltic countries where LIMP BIZKIT has never played before despite huge demand, along with major festivals like Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park in Germany. A new album, which would be the original group's first full-length effort since 2000, is also planned.

Stan Stapleton: jazz-rock-fusion-guitar
"I was literally blown away by this guy, amazing compositions and masterful playing, a true jazz fusion product. He is joined by fine tenor sax player as they play effortlessly thru a myriad of chord
changes with extreme precision. They are both joined by a well structured rhythm section that brings it together with beautiful melodic songs. This band ROCKS!
Have a listen to this band and tell me if you don't agree that this fine young up-start is well on his way to making more music magic in the future".

I love this Cd. From the first few notes, my ears were greeted by great compositions, genuinely intuitive group improvisation, and some highly skilled risk taking by all the band members. Throughout the recording, I couldn’t escape the feeling that this music might have been made during the Golden Age of Jazz Rock Fusion. Even though Mateus is a recent graduate of The Berklee College [Summa Cum Laude and majored in performance] the entire band’s use of 'space' and 'dynamics' make them sound like long time pros with a very distinct style all their own. In fact, the choice to make the Cd with all musicians in the studio at the same time create some of the best ‘listening’ and ‘reacting’ I’ve heard in a long time. Mateus himself plays well-chosen notes with tremendous feeling. He shows no fear of getting out there when he is improvising, and no ego to limit his ability to demonstrate his delicate touch when the music calls for it. In fact, everyone in the band sacrifices individual playing completely for the sake of the music in the ‘moment’. I especially like the fact that Mateus also knows when NOT to play. That is a truly unique gift in this age of the dominating ‘guitar shredder’ that has sadly become the signature sound of modern fusion. It’s hard to believe that this is the bands first recording and I’m eagerly awaiting more from Mateus and mates. Rick Calic www.jazzrockworld.com

Man, this cd is amazing. Great compositions, extremely competent band mates, intuitive improvisation, fantastic use of space and dynamics, sounds live, genuine originality, what else to say? I got this cd last week and i hear it twice a day and it surprise me all the time. This is not a guitar player cd for guitar players cause everybody is playing together all the time, and the bands reaction is one of the best I've heard in a long time. Mateus plays with no fear on the guitar and all other musicians are top as well, even when they are not improvising they are adding something. Jesse on the sax also did a amazing job on the solos, beautiful sound and great solos. Bass and drums great musicians to...really an amazing debut cd, the quality of the cd is also professional...so, don`t think, buy it.

Paul Gilbert: mr big interviews and tour/clinic dates

News:
12-02-2009:
Three cheers for Jenn... another metalichika post about Mr Big... and Paul Gilbert live dates!

When you think of the Budokan, what band comes to your mind?
Eric: Cheap Trick, the Beatles…
Paul: You know, the Beatles.
Eric: The coolest thing about playing the Budokan (pronounces it Budokhan), I just remember being out right before you come out onstage, you know when we go up the back stairs and the lights go out and the crowd cheers… it’s just an exhilarating feeling. Ah, the Budokan! I mean, it’s history. History in the making in Japan.

Alex Machacek: the official triangle

News:
12-02-2009:

2008 Release. This was a special weekend of music. Alex Machacek, Jeff Sipe and Neal Fountain performed three nights of music during the last weekend of June in North Carolina. It was the very first time that Alex and Neal met. Neal Fountain hails from the musical hotbed of Athens, GA, and has been playing professionally from the age of 14. Best known as a sideman to Col. Bruce Hampton and the Fiji Mariners (a post-A.R.U. project of Hamptons) and drumming phenom Jeff Sipe. Neals name is on the short list of greater Atlanta's finest musicians.

Matt Garrison was originally scheduled to play with Alex and Jeff as part of the Improvision DVD Shoot. However we had to postpone the DVD shoot because of scheduling conflicts. Neal came on a very short notice and played just great with Alex and Sipe. It got better with every night. So this music is from the final performance from Raleigh. Beautiful moments throughout the entire evening.

Total Running Time : Over 71 minutes
Alex Machacek (guitar); Jeff Sipe (drums); Neal Fountain (bass).
