Stefan Neldner: bass player moonlights as guitar player

Don't you just hate it when bass players moonlight as guitar players... this is just what Stefan Neldner did at this years Frankfurt show. He did a top notch job too!

Here's Stefan Neldner in more normal form... excessive fretless bass devastation... Good news for us he's set to make an appearnec on an upcoming CD from super talented fusion dude Martin Miller!

Michael Angelo Batio,Andreas Haukenes: MAB shows what a true guitar star he is.

I have a lot of time for Michael Angelo Batio and Andreas Haukenes. So It's really great to see Michael Angelo Batio offering some sage words of encouragement and advice to guitar players... that's worth five stars in my book!

Michael Angelo Batio:
O.K. You talked me into it....... YB, I am going to offer a few criticisms that I think will help. But before I do, let me mention the things that I thought were good. You have a nice vibrato. I liked the arp's later in the solo. I liked your overall tone. The things that I think you need to work on are first and foremost, the way you play hammers and pulls. Around the 30 to 33 second mark was the sign for me. You have a sluggish hammer and pull off technique which makes the listener feel that you are slightly behind the beat. Try to play them right on the beat. That's one of the reasons why players like Vinnie Moore and Michael Schenker, to name a few, sound so good. Their H and P timing is "spot on." Also, I know this is mostly a Dorian mode solo section, but I would use some wider intervals. It makes it sound more "fusionish." (Nice word, huh?!) All in all it was good. This is the first time I have ever critiqued anyone's playing on line. I don't mean to be too harsh and again, am sincerely trying to help. The main reason I do not like to criticize is a saying that I live by - advice - "Wise men don't need it and fools won't heed it!" Still, YB, thanks for sharing and for the support.

Balazs Prohaszka: Hungarian Luthier spreads the word

Balazs Prohaszka is a Hungarian Luthier based out of Ireland. The first time we heard of him was through one of his customers who basically just said “Hey, check this guy out, he might be a nice fit for your business model”.

That is one of the best emails we ever received.

Balazs is a Luthier who builds with an “outside of the box” mentality. He has his own vision of what a guitar should look and sound like, and pays special attention to what goes under the hood of his guitars and is not afraid to try different materials. Yet, his guitars are appealing to any guitar connoisseur.

In addition to his own workshop, Balazs is sought after by some of the biggest guitar companies to build prototypes and guitar consultations. Balazs took a break from his very busy schedule to answer some questions. full interview
