Francesco Soldati: endless modal changes

Francesco Soldati:
Here it's me TRYIN' to own some modal changes. It's so difficult!
I'm in a lack of licks... But before the licks, the most important thing is the melody. And I think I miss the melody too. Anyway it's a superb exercise to open my mind.
Hope you enjoy this!

I play through my Zoom 505II straight into computer. So the sound you hear is made by this multifx pedal. I only added a bit of reverb (to get a "creamy" sound) and a delay (to reach those oniricous atmospheres where the modal changes should take the listener's mind).

Rick Derringer,Steve Morse: Frankfurt 1984

Steve Morse and his fine band are joined by the fiery Rick Derringer live on stage in Frankfurt 1984. Steve Morse has long been considered a technical wizard on guitar, and deservedly so, but Rick Derringer has always been a smokin' player in his own right, not just a Rock & Roller! Enjoy!

Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee, Neil Peart: Clockwork Angels release date announced

Amazon.co.jp and HMV.co.jp, RUSH's long-awaited new album, "Clockwork Angels", will be released in Japan on May 23 viaWarner Music. The band started work on the follow-up to 2007's"Snakes & Arrows" in late 2009 with the production team of Nick Raskulinecz and engineer Richard Chycki

Two songs from "Clockwork Angels" that were previously digitally released, "BU2B" and "Caravan", were reportedly re-recorded for the forthcoming CD due to a record label change in the middle of the making of the album.

"Clockwork Angels" is being turned into a novel by Colorado-based sci-fi author Kevin J. Anderson, who wrote onFacebook, "Most of you are aware of my long-standing friendship with (RUSH drummer) Neil Peart . . . For more than twenty years, Neil and I have wanted to collaborate on something MAJOR, a way we could tie together our imaginations, and at last that's happening. I'm writing the novelization of RUSH's forthcoming album, 'Clockwork Angels'."

Paul Wardingham: .prog metal zone interview

Are there any musicians or bands these days that you really enjoy and are inspiring to you? Metal or otherwise?
Devin Townsend is a huge inspiration to me. Over the last couple of years I’ve discovered Sybreed, Breach The Void, Scar Symmetry and Solution .45 who are among my favorite bands these days. Loved the last Fear Factory album ‘Mechanize’ too and looking forward to their new one. Scott Henderson’s Tribal Tech albums, especially ‘Nomad’ which still gets a lot of plays. The On The Virg ‘Serious Young Insects’ album is one of my all-time favorite metal fusion albums. Jeff Loomis and his album Zero Order Phase. Christian Muenzner’s album ‘Timewarp’ released last year is awesome! Andy James and Stephan Forte also released fantastic instrumental guitar albums last year. I enjoy some pop music too like The Cure, Coldplay, Muse, 30 Seconds To Mars, and a lot of 80′s stuff as well. more http://www.progmetalzone.com/2012/paul-wardingham-interview/

Kirk Lorange: Little Wing Slide Guitar - awesome technique... one for Brett Garsed

Here's some improvisation over a home made midi track of this (slightly doctored) famous chord progression. In dropped D tuning, playing through a DigiTech RP100 using a heavy brass slide. Visit the site (http://www.bottleneckguitar.com ) for more info on slide in standard and dropped D.
I don't ever think scales when improvising like this, I follow the chords. . The trick is to be able to see the whole fretboard as 'the chord', which is what my book/DVD package PlaneTalk teaches. You can find out more about it athttp://www.thatllteachyou.com ... from then on, it's like joining the dots.

Mika Tyyskä: Mr Fastfinger accepting pre orders for new CD

Mika TyyskäHey friends and fellow shredders.
Here's a clip from a workshop from ast wednesday. Mr. Fastfinger's new album "in Motion" will be released in March. Here's a version with plenty of improvised soloing.
Album pre-orders available at http://mrfastfinger.net/index.php/store/

A clip from a workshop at Kuula-Opisto, Vaasa, Finland. At this point I was demoing some improvisation ideas. The song is from "In Motion" album. Will be released March / 2012. Album version features my friend, the great Thomas Blug sharing the lead spots. From 1:30 on, the leads are all improvised. around 3:00 the real action starts. I feel I have taken a step forward with my improvisation skills. Seems that practice actually helps ;)

"in Motion" new Mr. Fastfinger album will be released in March. CD comes with a special Fretboard game and access to a bunch of Jamtracks and other material. Pre-order yours here: http://mrfastfinger.net/index.php/store/
Special thanks to Eero for organizing everything and inviting Mr. Fastfinger to Vaasa. It was a pleasure. Huge thanks and deep bows to Kuula-Opisto and O'Malleys for having us!

Tech:
The amp sounded incredibly good in the Kuula-institute hall. Went with Powersoak to 5 watts. No overdrive pedals or such, it's the amp overdrive. But after the workshop I did a private demo for people interested in the amp. The18 watts. aaaah the sustain, the sussssstaaiiiin!
The sounds is directly from the video camera, the Canon HFM41. A bit compressed and messy I'm afraid.

G-system you won't see, but i had it there for controlling the amp as well as providing some delay for the leads. And slight compression and chorus for the clean rhythm parts.

Mark Claytor: new CD available on line

Shredguy Records teams up with Sumthinfierce Records to bring you the debut cd from Mark Claytor!

9 tracks...just released by Sumthinfierce Records!

Mark Claytor has rock and roll pumping from his heart into his guitar. His music is a clear
example of what great rock music is all about because he doesn't need a vocalist to
make his compositions sound great.

"Spider Bit" is a perfect example of why I said Mark doesn't need a vocalist to sound
good. Many instrumentalists will bore you to tears, but on this track Mark's guitar strings
are thrashing all over the place, gaining the one man band a certain level of respect from
me because he kept my attention throughout the entire track.

In addition to Spider Bit, Mark offers up more great rock instrumentals, including:
Memories Gone, Ice Flow, Pearlescent Dots, F5. Each of these tracks are oozing with
great rock guitars and overall production.

Overall, Mark's compilation of rock and roll instrumentals is some of the best guitar driven
music I've heard in recent months and explains his #1 ranking on Reverbnation for his
locale. You should check this guy out, I'm sure you'll agree if you're a rock fan.

Neal Nagaoka, tries out a AC-30EQM Acoustic for some Latin Jam

This is a HD short plug and play demo on my new AC-30EQM Acoustic Electric guitar that I got from ESP Guitars. I plugged in the guitar direct to the board with a little bit of reverb and improvised over the default Latin progression in Garage band in the key of F min. It was recorded the same day I actually got the guitar which was really late at night so I was pretty exhausted, half asleep and not used to playing this guitar yet. It's definitely not perfect but I thought the tone wasn't too bad for a 1st time trial run. The guitar plays very nicely!
