Samuli Federley: Colonoscopy - 8 string heaven

Official video of my track called Colonoscopy which is the opening track of my solo album, Quest For Remedy (2012). The music is composed and played by Samuli Federley, mixed and mastered by Esa Orjatsalo, the video is shot and cut by Tero Jääskeläinen, edited by Markus Valtanen.

Check out my website at www.samulifederley.com

Samuli Federley: I was born in 1981 in Helsinki, Finland. I started playing guitar in age of 10. From the early age I was strongly interested in music. I also played piano and drums but guitar was the most appealing instrument to me.

The early days were spent with heavy practicing and learning everything about guitar. I studied several years in pop/jazz conservatory in Helsinki and finally entered the Stadia, Polytechnics in Helsinki from where I graduated as a guitar pedagogy.

I have also always played in several bands and been the main composer in most of them. I have released about 10 albums to this day and more is to come.

My main influences are John Petrucci, Steve Vai, Shawn Lane, Guthrie Govan, Andy James, Rusty Cooley, Pat Metheny, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Paul Wardingham, Jeff Loomis, Paul Gilbert and so on. Even tough these guys are mainly metal oriented players, I enjoy listening and playing everything from classical to jazz.

My musical style could be described as progressive and technical metal. But even though I’m a big fan of guitar solos I pay a lot of attention to riffs and rhythm parts also. And yet I spend most of my time practicing technique, when it comes to composing the music comes always first. The solos are the last part when building a song.

Jason Becker: 101% :)

On November 13, 2011, a 6-hour guitar festival was held to honor Jason Becker, the incredible guitarist known for his extraordinary work with Cacophony, David Lee Roth and Marty Friedman, among others. Out of deep respect for Jason and love of his work, each guitarist featured at this tribute show waived their usual performance fees, playing that day simply to honor one of their contemporaries and source of great influence: Jason Becker, a modern day guitar great. All notes played that night were dedicated to the great Jason Becker in support of his struggle against the disease ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), which is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.
Contributing artists who played for Jason include: Guthrie Govan, Stuart Hamm (Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Frank Gambale) , Michael Lee Firkins, Mattias Eklundh (Freak Kitchen), Marco Sfogli (James LaBrie Band), Kiko Loureiro (Angra), Daniele Gottardo, Stéphan Forté (Adagio), Andy James, Atma Anur and more…
The live show was recorded on 24 tracks and now the tunes still need to be edited, mixed and mastered in the studio + design of the album needs to be made.
We need your help to finish the production on this live album. With your pledge, you will be helping to ensure that this amazing recording of a legendary concert gets released as well as defraying the cost of Jason’s growing medical expenses (www.jasonbecker.com).
Thank you!

Mike Orlando: Examiner interview

Examiner: You guys were nice enough to give me an advanced copy, and so I’ve been listening to Omertá over the past few weeks, and what strikes me the most is the varying styles of music from song to song. Some thrash, some groove, I feel like All On The Line almost sounds like an 80’s power ballad. Without trying to pin it to a genre, what tone would you say this record has?

Mike: Again, with all these songs, that’s just how I write. I like all different styles of music, I never pigeonhole myself into one genre or style. There’s just too much great stuff to enjoy. I’ve been crafting these songs for years, working on the songs that became Omertá, even before Russ. There are songs like Angel Sky and then it goes to Psychosane or Undaunted or Feeling Me... I love everything, from Pantera to Sabbath to the softer side, and obviously that comes through on All On The Line and songs like that. Everything to Duran Duran, I’ve loved that song since it came out and I couldn’t wait to redo it. I recorded it and played it for Russ and he was just blown away.
