Hi, I've put up a new song called Sur Le Mer De Tranquilite. This song was composed for Maria Wenekes. I have known Maria for many years and she was the integral 'behind the scenes' person that ran all of my websites, handled my fan mail, my art work. She was a tireless, dedicated, selfless and hugely talented person that I deeply respect and adore like a sister. Not only was she the driving force behind my career, she was also one of my very best friends. Sadly after around 6 months of constant pain, Maria lost her struggle with cancer on 13/08/08.
As deeply sad as this was to all of her family and close friends, we at least know that she is finally free of her suffering. I visited her just a few days before she died. We chatted and laughed but shed no tears. It was a very happy occasion.
And as she snoozed I noodled around on the guitar. Thinking that I was maybe disturbing her I stopped playing. She opened her eyes and said softly "don't stop, it's lovely. It sounds nice and tranquil"... So of course I played for her some more.
The outcome of those noodlings is this song. So in a sense, she had a hand in creating it. On 20/08/08 I performed this song at Maria's funeral at the request of her family. For me this was a performance filled with hugely conflicting emotions.
On one hand I was filled with grief to the point where I could hardly see the guitar's neck through the tears. On the other hand, I had a deep sense of the occasion and a feeling of awe that my music meant so much to her. Playing for her in this way was without doubt a tremendous honour.
Although it was a deeply sad occasion for all of us, it was a beautiful one too...
And for me, I could say goodbye to my "big sis" in a way that I could never with only words.. and in a way that I know that she'd not only expect of me, but a way that she'd understand.. Maria - your soul is now among the stars.. sleep in peace
I'll love and miss you forever... I really hope you enjoy this one as it is particularly special to me.. Clarky
