Matteo Mancuso is a guitar virtuoso who is taking the music world by storm with his incredible talent and mastery of the guitar. He has just announced his first headline tour of North America. The itinerary brings Matteo coast to coast in the U.S. and into Canada for several annual marquee events. The tour begins on May 20th at Boston's City Winery and wraps on June 30th at Le Festival International de Jazz de Montreal. Born and raised in Sicily, Italy, Matteo comes from a proud lineage of renowned Italian-American guitarists, including legendary names like Frank Zappa, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Al Di Meola, John Petrucci, and Frank Gambale. At 12 years old, he made his live performance debut at a local jazz festival, showcasing his prodigious skills and natural feel for the guitar. Since that auspicious beginning, Matteo has continued to hone his craft through a variety of musical collaborations and live performances alongside the most talented musicians in his local scene. Matteo later began to explore the hard-hitting sounds of rock legends like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and AC/DC while also immersing himself in the complex compositions of progressive rock acts such as Rush, Yes, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, and Dream Theater. Then, in 2023, he released his debut album, The Journey, via The Players Club/Mascot Label Group. Through this diverse range of musical explorations and experiences, Matteo is a multi-faceted guitar player—his one-of-a-kind technique and use of his fingers instead of regular picking. With an impressive tone, original sound, and humble demeanor, you have a guitarist the likes of which no one has ever seen, and his talent puts him in a different league. With his star rapidly rising, it's clear that Matteo is poised to take his rightful place among the guitar greats of the 21st century. Tickets for his shows can be found here:

I had the pleasure of speaking with Matteo as he explains that while this isn't his first time performing in the U.S., this is his most extensive tour of America, making it a career milestone. He'll be performing in a trio format, accompanied by a bassist and drummer, delivering a mix of material from his acclaimed debut album, The Journey, along with some special tributes to his musical heroes like Jeff Beck, Allan Holdsworth, and Jaco Pastorius. He hinted at possibly debuting a new, unreleased song even though he prefers to release songs officially before bringing them to the stage. A defining trait of Matteo's playing is his fingerstyle technique, unusual for an electric guitarist. He shared that this approach came about naturally. Initially, he didn't realize that picks were commonly used for electric guitar because he grew up watching his father play classical guitar. He developed a method using both his fingertips and fingernails to achieve his unique guitar tone. Matteo also shared some parting wisdom for young musicians to always play with people who are better than them and emphasized the importance of surrounding themselves with passionate, skilled musicians, especially drummers and bassists. Looking ahead, Matteo is hard at work on his second studio album, which he hopes to complete by the end of 2025 and release in early 2026.
