Yngwie Malmsteen: sonic excess interview

SE: Looking back on your career, would you do anything differently?

MALMSTEEN: No, because if I made a mistake, there was a lesson to be learned. So, no. Let me tell you, I have made a lot of mistakes (laughs). I got ripped off blind for years, but I learned my lesson. So, I know exactly what’s going on. Every time you do something, there has to be a lesson. If you make the same mistake more than once, then it’s bad more

Jeff Loomis: loves Gypsy Jazz

And whether he’s teaching or performing, he’ll continue to expand his sonic horizons by studying the playing styles of modern gypsy guitarists such as Stochelo Rosenberg and Joscho Stephan. “These guys are insane as far as right-hand technique and picking goes,” Loomis says. “I see a lot of this gypsy jazz stuff being the new style of heavy metal lead guitar playing, because it’s so much more interesting. I just purchased a gypsy jazz guitar and I’m really excited to learn those styles and advance my guitar playing even more. That’s the great thing about playing the guitar: there’s always more to learn.” more

Burke Shelley: Budgie bassist seriously ill

Fingers crossed for the welsh legend!

"Burke Shelley was admitted to hospital after complaining of pains in his abdomen on Tuesday, November 9 in Wejherowo. A team of surgeons was quickly assembled to operate on the singer and bassist who was diagnosed as having a 6cm aneurism of the aorta. Tests revealed that Burke's aorta was leaking blood into the outer wall of the aneurism which could have burst at any time. He underwent a two-hour, 40-minute operation in the evening and he is being kept in the intensive care ward." more
