Sam Bell: Ibanez RG2550Z - Foodling - Fusion Noodling

Noodling (?) on my RG2550Z, along to a chromatic etude jam. I love this guitar, it feels great to play. Its first gig was at Butlins Bognor Regis almost a year ago now, I played lots of Lady GaGa tunes and various other pop music. This guitar has a huge array of tones available from just using the volume/tone/pick up selection. Dial a crunchy tone on the amp, and you can control almost everything from the guitar. The Edge Zero trem is super sturdy, I have had a few Ibanez RG's over the last 7 or 8 years of my playing, and this one you can dive bomb the thing so the strings are falling off and it comes back in tune wonderfully! Anyway, if this is the first time you have seen me playing guitar, and for some reason enjoy it, please hit the subscribe button! I upload lessons, originals, jams (like this one) and much more! Also, click like, apparently that helps me be more YouTube.

Al Di Meola: All Your Life - A Tribute to the Beatles

Al Di Meola: All Your Life - A Tribute to the Beatles

Al Di Meola: All Your Life - A Tribute to the Beatles - Al Di Meola (guitar)

The thundering power of high energy rock fuelled fusion, the subtly woven sounds of Latin American music and folk in particular the music of his Argentinian friend and inspiration Astor Piazzolla, the breathtaking interchange between acoustic and electric, between sensitivity and daring, solo brilliance and mutual understanding within a group performance there really isn't anything that guitar virtuoso Al Di Meola hasn't explored and mastered with ease since his glorious beginnings back in the seventies. Through his dazzling technique, his superb sense of rhythm and the artistic unwillingness to compromise, virtually everything he touches turns to gold under the deftness of his fingers. The material selected by Di Meola for this current album 'All Your Life' is itself already pure gold, and under his determined hands it takes on a unique, new sheen: the treasure chest that is the songs of the Beatles.

'Man, that was revolutionary! Not just the fresh sound, never before heard, but the song writing was also superb', reflects Al in a fascinating essay for the booklet about the Fab Four phenomenon. With their 'great voices, cool lyrics, unbelievable melodies and harmonies' the four from Liverpool had also influenced him heavily in the early years. Time and again the brilliant guitarist had dreamt about creating a tribute to the Beatles but each time he rejected the idea: 'You can't improve on Sgt. Pepper.'

In early 2012 during a European tour he did however pluck up the courage. He rented out the legendary Abbey Road Studios, walked across the famous zebra crossing, and discovered a curious magic within those historic premises to finally have 'the most fantastic studio experience of my life'. The sound was to be analogue, to reflect that of the Beatles, so simple and at the same time magical. With only his acoustic guitar and some percussion, and now and again assisted by his co-producer Hernan Romero with hand claps and rhythmical accompaniment, Al Di Meola recorded a total of 14 Beatles' classics in three recording sessions between May 2012 and February 2013. Over this period it so happened that he met none other than Paul McCartney by chance during a stay on the American east coast.

On 'All Your Life' the guitarist has discovered a way to harmoniously blend his own musical world with that of his idols. In doing so he's not only ventured to take on those often covered, simple and brilliant classics with his own instinctive feel; the Lennon/McCartney melodies such as Eleanor Rigby , Blackbird , And I Love Her , Michelle or With A Little Help From My Friends , but he has also accepted the challenge posed by the psychedelic gems and lends Day In The Life or I Am The Walrus a surprising acoustic finish. Nobody can fail to be moved by the Beatles with what results. Depending on the listener's perspective, and in the hands of Al Di Meola, their music will either reawaken a passion or be the spark which ignites a new fascination.

Kazumi Watanabe: Live at the Iridium
Kazumi Watanabe: Live at the Iridium (Import)
Kazumi Watanabe (guitar); Janek Gwizdala (bass); Obed Calvaire (drums)
Watanabe was invited in 2011 by the New York club Iridium to play there as part of the "Legendary Jazz Fusion Guitarists" series. Watanabe began a search for younger bassist and drummer based in the US who would bring fresh ideas and energy, and chose Janek Gwizdala, originally from England, and Obed Calvaire who's played with Wynton Marsalis, Mike Stern and the Clayton Brothers, among others. Material for this exciting CD was taken from the three-day gig at The Iridium in October, 2011. Although they have never played together before, the superbly talented trio musicians apparently had a great rapport and "clicked" with one another. Whether playing well-known jazz musicians' compositions or Watanabe's own tunes, they burn red hot with intensity and thrilling interplay. Beautifully mastered and pressed on Blu-spec CD (Sony's high quality CD format that is compatible with all CD players), this CD will also impress audiophiles. Recommended! Recorded live at The Iridium, New York City, on October 15 and 16, 2011. Blu-spec CD is compatible with all CD players. The CD package includes an English liner notes.

Theodore Kalantzakos Group Announces New Single “No Shortcuts (Paving The Way Forward)”

"The power duet TKG is thrilled to announce the release of the latest single “No Shortcuts (Paving The Way Forward)”, available now worldwide.

Following their full length album Pattern Partner [LP] (2012), TKG strikes again with a new composition full of adventurous melodies, fretless guitar solos, electro elements and ambient textures composing a picture of modern and fresh sounds. Guitar virtuoso Theodore Kalantzakos commented “We inspired from A. Machado’s (1875-1939) words “Wanderer, there is no road, the road is made by walking.” Since our last release it was a hard working, but at the same time, an enjoyable period for the band. This composition is for all the ""wanderers"" who love to keep their head down and working hard on ""paving"" their ""way forward"". This composition could also be a page in the band's virtual ""music diary"" witnessing that ""road"" with ""no shortcuts"", made ""by walking"".

Video clip is scheduled to be out on September 25th. Shows and Clinic Tour planned for November 2013 to May 2014.

Man.. what a day. —  feeling wonderful with Kris Claerhout, Laura Jaramillo and Ivan Chopik.

Black Label Society, formed in the late nineties by legendary guitar hero Zakk Wylde, have established themselves at the forefront of heavy metal with a series of hard riffing and hugely successful albums alongside worldwide tours that have cemented their reputation as one of the most powerful live bands of their generation. "Unblackened" finds Black Label Society in a mellower mood in a performance filmed at Club Nokia in Los Angeles earlier this year. The concert showcases the band's songs with a greater use of acoustic instruments but without losing any of their power and intensity. Zakk Wylde leads from the front as always, performing here on both guitar and piano and demonstrating the subtler side of his music alongside the blistering solos

Born in Atlanta, Ga. into a musical family, Levi was already playing violin and piano by the age of three, and composed his first symphonic work when he was just 17. In 1999 he attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass., before leaving to return to Atlanta in 2001 where he founded his own recording studio.

In 2010, Levi moved to Orlando, Fla. where he joined forces with Jason Suecof (Trivium, Chimaira) and Mark Lewis (Deicide, DevilDriver) at Audiohammer Studios. There he helped to both expand and enrich their facilities by adding a magnificent drum room, two new control rooms and sleeping quarters for the bands.

As a part of the Audiohammer family, he's worked with such acts as Job for a Cowboy, August Burns Red, Six Feet Under, Carnifex, Chelsea Grin, Whitechapel, Deicide, Death Angel, I Killed The Prom Queen, The Contortionist, Motionless In White, Arsis, Demon Hunter, Firewind, and Charred Walls of the Damned. His latest credits include The Black Dahlia Murder, Battlecross, DevilDriver and Reflections.

New Flower Kings CD Desolation Rose

NEWS : THE FLOWER KINGS – reveal release of new studio album ‘Desolation Rose’ October 28th
Pre-Order from Reingold Records and I (Jonas) will personally sign your copy
Warning!!! The 2LP + 2CD is a heavy Item and the shipping will be expensive, only for the hard core fans!!!

Swedish progressive-rock royalty The Flower Kings have had a busy year since regrouping in 2012 for the ‘Banks Of Eden’ album, and with a new creative vigor the band are following that with the fantastic new album ‘Desolation Rose’ due out on 28th October 2013.
The artwork, once again created by Silas Toball, can be viewed above and the band had this to say about the forthcoming release:

"Being somewhat of a political statement, the epic theme of "Desolation Rose" is a logical step in a time where perpetual war, famine, environmental threats, religious conflicts dominate the media and our minds. This is a time to wake up and the music on this album takes you on a journey where you are forced to questions what the mainstream media feed us and to rethink your whole world view on all of the above. This is in many ways a typical Flower Kings album, but we have also taken it into another realm where we do take chances and where you may struggle to get into the music - or the lyrics - but trust me when I say that you will be rewarded, as this may be our most involved, important and interesting album ever. "     (Roine Stolt - Sept 2013)

The track-listing for the album is as follows:

1 Tower ONE 13:39
2 Sleeping Bones 04:16
3 Desolation Road 04:00

Jason Becker: talks about his favourite guitar players in the latest Guitar World interview

Who are some of your favorite guitarists today?

There are so many great ones. I am still in love with old cats like Eddie Van Halen, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Michael Lee Firkins, Greg Howe, Richie Kotzen, Joe Satriani, Roy Buchanan, Neal Schon, Brian Setzer, Brian May, Uli Jon Roth, Trevor Rabin, Eric Johnson, Marty [Friedman], Steve Vai, Steve Morse, Paul Gilbert, Albert King ... I could go on and on. Steve Hunter’s newest CD, The Manhattan Blues Project, is an absolutely beautiful album.

Some of the newer players are Gretchen Menn, who never forgets about the composition; the funky and soulful Aleks Sever. There's also Guthrie Govan, who takes it to another level. Hmmm, Jeff Loomis, Chris Broderick, Daniele Gottardo, Jess Lewis. I'm sure I’m forgetting some people!
