Charlie Hunter: bing, bing, bing

News:
31-07-2007:
Charlie Hunter's new album and first release on Fantasy Records (Concord Music Group), Mistico is a stunning combination of jazz, rock, fusion and signature Charlie Hunter guitar work, which defies easy categorization.

Mistico is Hunter's first release for two years and is being hailed as his most ambitious release yet, while retaining his signature sound. Read Chris May's review at All About Jazz.

A great new All About Jazz Interview with Charlie Hunter.

Background:
Charlie has been around for a long time, but his playing never fails to amaze me. Charlie started playing guitar fro mthe age of 12. A few years later was taking lessons from Joe Satriani. He graduated from Berkeley high school , but not in music and he found school life hard.

At around 18 he discovered jazz and bands like Weather Report and jazz artists like Wes Montgomery, Charlie Parker, Charlie Christian and John Coltrane.

Charlie hooked up with Michael Franti Charlie who had at 7-string guitar (2 bass strings, 5 guitar strings, 2 pickups). They performed together as a duo and then Cahrlie and Franti formed the "Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy", opening up gigs for U2 .

Check out Charlies web site for an extensive bio, which is well worth the read. Also check out:
