Background:
Joel Wanasek started playing violin at the age of 10 and played for 8 years. Joel added guitar at the age of 12. He was inspired to practice by Rhandy Rhoads, forming a band Crystal Reign which lasted for a number of years.

Joe created the guitar web site: InsaneGuitar.com, before forming his current band Dark Shift in 2000. They signed to AJA Records, but fell out before releasing a CD. Joel worked on Dark Shift's debut album 'The Assault' whch was released in June of 2003. Dark Shift also opened up for Gigantour featuring Megadeth, Dream Theater, Symphony X, in Milwaukee.
