Joel Hoekstra (Guitar) has done well for himself since honing his skills at GIT. He is currently lead guitarist (alongside Brad Gillis) with multi-platinum pop-metal hitmakers Night Ranger and plays a high-profile band role in the guitar-centric Broadway hit musical Rock of Ages. You may also have seen him on PBS performing on Jim Peterik’s multi-act Worldstage concerts or lending his skills to the star-studded Scrap Metal nostalgia concerts put on by Matt and Gunnar Nelson.
Hoekstra is also in demand by ’60s rock acts, with tours under his belt for the Turtles and Big Brother & the Holding Company as well as a whopping 1,400 performances of the popular Janis Joplin-themed Broadway musical, Love, Janis. When not on the road or Broadway, he has found the time to turn out solo recordings produced by MI instructor-engineer-guitarist-singer extraordinaire T.J. Helmerich.
