Dweezil Zappa
Guitarist Dweezil Zappa cocooned himself in the studio seven years ago, engineering his own metamorphosis. "In order for me to play my father's music correctly and respectfully I needed to understand the fundamentals of his music more thoroughly, which meant a lot of studying." His goal to emerge as a "better musician" and "better guitarist" was successful: the autodidactic Zappa realized the fruits of his labor to startling effect on stage and in his 2009 Grammy®-winning record release of Zappa Plays Zappa.

2010 will mark the fifth consecutive year of touring his father's music. Reaching out to a new generation of music fans, Dweezil will also launch a music school called Dweezilla this summer. And on the horizon is "Return of the Son Of...," a new CD of live Zappa plays Zappa performances, featuring his "most melodic and adventurous playing."

Dweezil's connection to Sony and Vegas Pro is quite recent. After years of "over the shoulder" involvement in his own video and DVD projects, Dweezil decided he wanted to take control and edit the Dweezil Zappa/Plays Zappa — ROXY Blu-ray DVD himself. "I've always known what I wanted to see and hear but I just didn't know which buttons to press."

"Sony Vegas Pro and my AMD-powered workstation with ATI FirePro™ professional graphics have enabled me to maintain strict attention to detail and have thematic coherence throughout my entire project. All of the effort I've put into learning the music and rehearsing the band has uniquely qualified me as an editor for this music. I know the entrances of every instrument, where it breathes and how it's phrased. My dad had a saying, 'you have to put the eyebrows on it.' I have all the right tools and the skills to do that now."
