Guitar Player magazine's 2010 Guitar Superstar competition is open to electric and acoustic guitar players of all styles who believe they have what it takes to earn the title of "Guitar Superstar."

This is the fifth year Guitar Player has hosted this instrumental-guitar competition. Each year, ten finalists are chosen by the editors of Guitar Player to fight it out in front of a panel of celebrity judges. Past judges have included Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, George Lynch, Steve Lukather, Nuno Bettencourt, Elliot Easton, Greg Howe, Jennifer Batten, and Richie Kotzen. Past hosts of the big event include Andy Summers, Greg Kihn, and Brendan Small (creator of Metalocalypse).

The 2010 Guitar Players Guitar Superstar competition will be held September 18, 2010 at the Bankhead Theater in Livermore, California. The 2009 winner and current champion is Steve Senes. Who will be the 2010 Guitar Superstar?

New for 2010!

Video Submissions: All entries must be videos of a guitarist performing an original instrumental work no more than five minutes long. No covers. No singing. No 20-minute prog-rock epics. Both solo and full-band performances are permitted. Entries limited to players living in the domestic United States who are at least 18 years of age.

Peoples Choice Finalist: This year, the GP staff will select nine finalists. The tenth contender will be chosen by the public! The video that logs the highest number of votes before the entry period closes on June 30, 2010 at 12:59 pm will instantly win that player a spot in the competition.

Goodies: All finalists are provided airfare and two nights lodging in an event hotel. The 2010 Guitar Superstar will win gear packages from various guitar manufacturers, a feature story in Guitar Player, and an album contract with Guitar Player Records (distributed by MI5/EMI).
