Blistering.com: When did you discover you had some genuine talent on the guitar, and what did you do to foster it?

Artusato: I guess I started feeling more comfortable with my playing when I went to Berklee. I had the chance to play and listen to a lot of great musicians and that helped me realize what my level of playing was.

Blistering.com: During your stint in Berklee, what were some of the things you were able to take away?

Artusato: My understanding of concepts like “time” and “musical phrase” finally became way more clear and in depth during my time at Berklee. I also studied a lot of composition and arrangement techniques for full orchestra, things that seemed to be so unattainable before Berklee due to their complexity. I really feel like I matured a lot musically during those years.

Blistering.com: Guitar shred albums usually appeal to only one type of audience, but because of your involvement with ASP, do you think you can reach a wider spectrum of people?

Artusato: I’m sure it helps being in a pretty popular band like ASP. My solo album gets exposed to more people even though the music is very different. A lot of people who are into metal still find very difficult to listen to music without vocals.
