(Los Angeles – 6/19/2015) Super drummer Tony Royster Jr. (Jay ZJoe Jonas) and the legendary Jim Keltner (John Lennon/Bob Dylan/Traveling Wilburys) have been added to Thomas Lang’s 4th Annual Big Drum Bonanza 2015 (BDB2015) line up which already features world-renowned artists: Thomas Lang (stork/Paul Gilbert); Chad Wackerman (Frank Zappa/James Taylor); Matt Garstka (Animals as Leaders); Gregg Bissonette, (Ringo Starr’s Allstar Band/David Lee Roth); Rich Redmond (Jason Aldean) and Gergo Borlai (Tribal Tech) among others for this exciting, 5-day music camp and educational experience. Lang and his special guest teachers will lead daily schedules of intensive, hands-on drumming, master classes, Q&A sessions, performances, private lessons and much more in an exclusive setting that allows students to have maximum access to these acclaimed artists. JIM KELTNER
He's one of the top groove drummes of all time and has worked with Elvis Preseley, John Lennon, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Traveling Wilburys, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young -- and the list goes on.
Is Jim Keltner a jazz drummer? A rock drummer? A country rock-cum-big-band drummer? It’s hard to know as Keltner is impossible to categorize — he’s seemingly played it all. Perhaps the most resourceful drummer alive, Keltner typically finds the most unusual, and the most musical solution to any drumming question. His rustic grooves rattle, buzz, vibrate, and hum, often produced from a variety of sticks and stick-like instruments. Keltner’s mid-’70s work with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Harry Nilsson, Joe Cocker, and Steely Dan produced milestones like the Dan’s “Josie” and Dylan’s “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” (during the recording of which Keltner cried). But his recent work is even more striking. The Traveling Wilburys, Los Lobos, and even Money Mark provided the perfect release for Keltner’s cool creativity, which includes never hitting the obvious beat when his innate, oversized talent could produce something infinitely better.
