Is it possible to improvise with harmonic/stylistic relevance and in a relaxed manner on classical pieces like Hotel California, without necessarily redoing the originals (wonderful) or diving like a pilot into Pearl Harbor? Obviously yes and you don't even need to be a jazz musician or a theory champion.
